The HRD ministry has proposed to spend Rs 60,000 crore over five years to provide digital devices to 4 crore students in the higher education sector. The proposal was presented to the 15th Finance Commission on Monday by the HRD ministry. The commission conducted the meeting to discuss education “at the time of COVID-19.” The HRD Ministry has proposed to provide devices such as laptops, tablet computers, mobile phones, and television setups to around 40 percent of students enrolled in colleges and universities by 2025-26.
The Mumbai High Court has said that it was mindful of the difficulties faced by the parents and that the schools may consider allowing them to pay the fees online and in reasonable installments. Taking into consideration the financial problems that surfaced as an effect of the pandemic and lockdown, the High court, as per a state government regulation (GR) had barred private schools from hiking fees. This GR had also directed the schools not to collect yearly one-time fees for academic years 2019-20 and 2020-21 and give parents an option to deposit the same on a monthly or quarterly basis.

India’s third-largest telecom operator Vodafone Idea reported a net loss of Rs 73,878 crores for 2019-20, the highest ever annual loss by any Indian firm, after making provision for Supreme Court-mandated statutory dues. 2 workers have died and 16 injured after a boiler exploded at NLC India’s thermal power plant at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The injured workers, some of whom had sustained over 40% burns, have been rushed to NLCIL General Hospital in the township. This is the second boiler blast at the plant in two months.

A shiny, white Falcon 9 rocket took to the skies on June 30th at 4:10 p.m. EDT (2010 GMT), shooting from Space Launch Complex 40 situated at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. This launch is part of an ongoing effort by the Department of Defense to upgrade GPS satellites currently in space. The constellation of aging GPS satellites was launched some 20 years ago, and since then, technology has evolved significantly.
