DU’s St Stephen’s College releases highest ever 1st cut-off list of 99.25%

Delhi University’s St Stephen’s College has released its 1st cut-off list of 99.25% for the AY 2020-2021 for admission to UG courses like BA (Hons) Economics. Those willing to pursue BA (Hons) English and BA (Hons) History, the cut-off is 99% for Commerce stream students.

UP girl runs away from home fearing arranged marriage, cracks UPSC exam

Sanju Rani Verma, passed the Public Service Commision exam, a life-long dream, just last week. This is after running away from home seven years ago to escape an arranged marriage. Today Verma is an inspiration to many and will soon be joining the services as a commercial tax officer. 

National Curriculum Framework for teachers to be chalked out under NEP

Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Minister of Education, recently released a statement that the new and improved National Curriculum Framework for Teachers Education (NCFTE) will be formulated by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) following the guidelines of the new NEP2020. 

Congress MPs walks out of Lok Sabha, demand discussion on Indo-China feud

On being denied the ability to question the defense minister regarding Indo-China conflicts, Congress MPs staged a walkout as a sign of protest on Tuesday. They have stated that the lack of discussion surrounding the Indo-China is aggravating. 

‘If you didn’t count, did nobody die?’ Rahul Gandhi asks PM Modi on migrants’ death

Rahul Gandhi tweeted a sharp retort on Tuesday morning following the lack of parliamentary statistics concerning migrant labourer deaths. The tweet, post in Hindi, went a little like this l: 

“If you didn’t count… did nobody die? The sad part is that the government does not care about the loss of lives. The world saw them dying… Modi government was unaware,”

“Social media being used to defame Mumbai and Maharashtra”, Shiv Sena claims

This Tuesday, using the party’s mouthpiece Samaana, the Shiv Sena claimed that social media platforms are being systematically used to defame the integrity of Mumbai and Maharashtra. They also claimed that there is no clear distinction on social media between gossip and fact, name dropping Supreme Court judge N V Ramanas and an official statement released by him on the same topic. 

Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut, gives Zero Hour Notice

On Tuesday Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut made a statement in the Lok Sabha over the proposed privatisation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Maharashtra and concerns over national security. On the following day he gave a Zero Hour Notice along the same lines in the Rajya Sabha. 

Bill to reduce MP salaries by 30% for a year passed by Lok Sabha

The Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, was passed unanimously in the Lower House of the Parliament  that will now allow for the dedication of 30% from MP salaries to accommodate and meet the needs rising because of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

US immigration centres perform hysterectomies on women

A whistleblower and nurse, Dawn Wooten, filed a complaint on Monday against the private Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia. Wooten expressed concern over the “medical neglect” and lack of precautions taken in context to the pandemic as well as the large number of hysterectomies being performed on mostly Spanish speaking women who are not informed about what the operation entails. 

Delhi police comment on riots

The Delhi police, in order to add backing claim to their conspiracy of the Delhi riots being planned, have now targeted the Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Delhi University professor and public intellectual Apoorvanand, renowned economist Jayati Ghosh, documentary filmmaker Rahul Roy, and Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav among other prominent personalities, as persons who had,  encouraged the protesters as part of a ‘plan’.
