Monsoon Skincare Tips To Keep Your Skin Healthy

The much-awaited season of monsoon requires a dedicated skincare regime to counter the humidity and fluctuating temperatures. Taking care of your skin during monsoons is essential to prepare it for the harshness of the consecutive winter season. There are many essentials which form the part of your monsoon skincare regime but there are a few things which shouldn’t be missed at all.

There are many ways to take care of your skin during monsoons. No matter which method you choose for your skincare, be sure to inculcate the following elements in our routine:

1.Sun-screen: You might question, why would anyone need sunscreen if the sky is going to be covered with dark clouds? That is because, whether it is rain or sunshine, winter or summer, our skin is always susceptible to sun damage. Sunscreen is the easiest method to protect the skin from damaging effects of UV rays. It is really helpful in slowing down the ageing of the skin. Some studies indicate that sunscreen can also be helpful in preventing skin cancer. So stock up your sunscreen even for monsoons and be sure to buy one which offers broad-spectrum protection and water resistance.

2. Cleansing: Monsoon leads to an increase in humidity which naturally makes people susceptible to excessive sweating. This sweat can trap bacteria, dirt and various pollutants in the pores, which leads to the problem of clogging, acne, zits, etc. In monsoons, keep your skin clean with a mild, soap-free cleanser which can be used to gently remove germs from the skin, keeping it fresh and hydrated.

3. Toner: Highly underrated but an essential part of your monsoon skincare kit, a toner helps to shrink the skin pores after cleansing. Buy an alcohol-free toner with antioxidant ingredients like green tea and glycolic acid. It will help to tighten enlarged pores, control blemishes and acne, and at the same time also remove dead cells.

4. Moisturising: A non-greasy and non–comedogenic moisturiser are a must-have in your monsoon skincare kit. No matter which season it is, moisturising regularly is a good habit. During monsoons, when wearing any kind of skin cream or lotion can seem icky due to excessive humidity and sweating. However, the lightweight hydration in the moisturising lotion helps to nourish the skin, prevent moisture loss and enhance the skin’s natural glow. So don’t break your moisturising routine just because the monsoon is here.

5. Exfoliating: Since one tends to sweat a lot during the monsoon season, exfoliating every day becomes an important element of skincare habits. A mild exfoliator cleans out pores and other impurities in the skin without being overly harsh. It is especially good for sensitive skin, which is more prone to damage due to harsh products. There’s no need to exfoliate every day as that can be unnecessary, but once a week is fine.

6. Wash your face more frequently: There might be rivers of sweat pouring down your face but it doesn’t compensate for washing your face. Excess build-up of oil and grime tends to settle on the skin and it’s best to wash it off before it can clog your pores. It is suggested to wash the face at least three times a day to avoid any build-up. If you are using make-up, then buy waterproof make-up products which won’t easily wear-off due to humidity. However, it is best to wear light make-up as possible. It can further irritate the skin and limit its breathing capacity in an atmosphere which is already hot and humid.

7. Use natural face pack: Natural face-packs are trending in the cosmetic world. Instead of putting chemical products which can be harsh on the skin, people are favouring natural products which can be used without any fear of side-effects. Pamper your skin with a home spa using natural ingredients like raw coconut oil, honey, yoghurt, gram flour, rose water, etc. These natural ingredients will keep your skin looking naturally fresh, supple and healthy. They also supply your skin with essential vitamins and minerals to induce a natural glow to the skin. A face pack is best applied during night time and kept one for at least half an hour. After which, one should wash it off and then go to sleep. Doing this once or twice in a fortnight is a good skincare habit.
