“Hmm….hmm…hmm…”
Anytime, anywhere if a ‘90s kid hears this iconic tune, only one name comes to mind – Lucky Ali.
Lucky Ali, singer and songwriter is a revolutionary in the Indian Indipop scene ever since he started his three-decade musical career in 1996 with the album ‘Sunoh’ which won him multiple awards including the Best Pop Male Vocalist at the Screen Awards.
His career took a dramatic acceleration with hit releases such as ‘O Sanam’, ‘Anjaani Raahon Mein’, and ‘Ek Pal Ka Jeena’. His Bollywood journey was defined by his unique, unrestrained voice that made his songs refreshingly different from the mainstream songs of the time. He has sung for films such as Sur (2003), Anjaana Anjaani (2010) and Tamasha (2015).
The indie-pop scene in India has solely been transformed and elevated due to his timeless music but Ali has remained humble and often refuting claims of popularity in media interviews. It is this humility and charisma that has drew in his loyal fans to listen to his music 25 years after his debut release.
But that’s not all, he has dipped his toes in the world of acting as well in films such as Yehi Hai Zindagi (1977), Hamare Tumhare (1979) and Shyam Benegal’s Trikaal (1985). He also acted in the Shyam Benegal directed TV series Bharat Ek Khoj. After a long break, he returned to act in Sanjay Gupta’s Kaante (2002).
As an artist he has always maintained a low profile, ensuring that his work speaks for himself by not endorsing any brands. In the age of social media, his craft has been a breath of fresh air that doesn’t conform to the bombastic and over the top tunes of today.
In Goa, last year, a video resurfaced on the internet where he was jamming to ‘O Sanam’ in front of a small audience which went instantly viral and won accolades from his fans and industry colleagues all over to start singing once again! This just shows how his effortless, breezy style of singing will never go out of style.
His music has stayed relevant throughout the years and even after a long hiatus where he wasn’t making any new music or performing anywhere – his popularity has remained constant. In fact, there has been a resurgence of his old music due to new audiences rediscovering the magic of Lucky Ali.
Celebrating it’s 20 year old legacy, MICA Ahmedabad’s iconic marketing festival- MICANVAS’21 -proudly welcomes this beautiful artist for an exclusive performance to embrace the longevity of our passion and the drive to unravel what we love and what we are good at. Who knew that marketing and music can have this shared connection!
So, “Aa Bhi Jaa” and witness the magic of “O Sanam” come live. We’ll always feel “Lucky” to hear these timeless pieces. How does he achieve this eternality? “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum”
