The Internship Story

That 70’s Show was a fabulous show for more reasons than one. If you’re a fan, you must remember that one episode where Red Forman was looking for a new job, and his game plan to get bag the job was to tell his tentative employers that he’s experienced, loyal and hardworking. The episode made fun of how only those qualities are not enough to bag a job, and keep in mind this series was based in the 1970s. So obviously, in 2015, it’s definitely not enough. We’ve reached a very competitive stage in the job markets of our world. A stellar degree and dependable individual qualities are not enough to make sure your career will be off to a great start.

This is where internships come in the picture. And if you haven’t taken one up yet, or haven’t even considered taking one up, trust us, you’re already falling behind. Look around, most of your peers must have already bagged themselves an internship.

What is an internship, and what are its benefits?

An internship is an opportunity offered by an employer to potential employees, to work at an organisation for a fixed, limited period of time. An internship can last for any length of time from a week to a year, depending upon the place of employment. Not only does this provide the intern with an addition to their CV, but it also gives them an experience of the real-time corporate world, and how it functions. Prior work experience is the form of internships is also highly attractive to potential employers on a candidate’s CV.

When should you consider an internship?

If you’re a college student, it is the right time for you to consider an internship. Most interns are college students themselves, trying to get ahead of the line by honing their skills before starting a full-time career. Plus, at an internship, a greater emphasis is given on training, rather than employment.
