With exactly 100 days to the commencement of the ICC World Cup 2023, the BCCI and ICC have finally announced the of the tournament in Mumbai today. The tournament opener will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5, and will feature the finalists of the 2019 edition, England and New Zealand.
The semi-finals will be played on 15 and 16 November at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The final and the two semi-finals will be day-night fixtures with the matches getting underway at 2 PM IST. There are six-day matches that will get underway at 10:30 AM IST while all other fixtures will be day-night games, starting at 2 PM IST.
Apart from Mumbai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, the tournament will also be played in Chennai, Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Pune. The practice games will be hosted by Guwahati, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram.
As for India’s campaign in the World Cup, the team will open against Australia in Chennai on October 8. For the most awaited match, India will play against Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad. Interestingly enough, the ICC has announced that if India reaches the semi-finals, their match will be played in Mumbai unless Pakistan also qualifies and is slated to play India, in which case, the match will be hosted by Kolkata.
