The new world with its new advancements and challenges is demanding countries to find newer ways to tackle the changes. The primary step, these days, to put newer ways into action is to educate the youth and the upcoming generations. At home, the Government of India has very well recognised this need. It has thus begun to revamp the curriculum set under its National Education Policy 2020. It is now developing the National Curriculum Framework and has called it the ‘ Naye Bharat Ka Naya Curriculum. ’
What is the National Curriculum Framework?
The Education Ministry recognises the need to change along with the changing times. It is planning on developing the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). With so much happening in the world, be it the speedy technological advancements or the rising threats of climate change, building a syllabus that focuses on, educates and makes the students aware of it, is the need of the hour. The National Curriculum Framework focuses on doing just that.
It’s set in action to include and develop all those subjects and studies in the new curriculum that are relevant to the current times. This is being done to help the school as well as college students to hold knowledge and information about the current developments and challenges. It aims to equip students with new-age qualifications and skills relevant enough to help them function effectively in their respective industries/sectors in accordance with the changing times.
Acting on it, the Education Ministry held a meeting with other ministries, education experts, and departments including NCERT, Election Commission of India, ICAR, and DRDO. The NCF or National Curriculum Framework was discussed in detail during the meeting.
The key points discussed involved rapidly changing technology, the need to encourage innovation and generation of new ideas, to give diligent importance to crucial issues like climate change, new age skill requirements, and the need for advanced knowledge for agricultural growth. The areas where India holds strong potential to succeed were discussed in detail.
To make the NCF more relevant, the ministry has formed over 700 state-level expert groups in States and Union Territories across subjects and cross-cutting themes. These groups are entrusted with the job of making suggestions about what should and should not be included in the ‘ Naye Bharat Ka Naya Curriculum. ’ The suggestions from these expert groups are then rigorously analyzed in order to incorporate the suggestions in the NCF.
What makes this decision of framing the NCF unique is that, apart from inviting suggestions from experts, the Education Ministry is also seeking feedback from the Indian citizens on what they think should be incorporated into the syllabus.
The Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan took to Twitter to speak about the government’s plan to develop the NCF.
The National Steering Committee (NSC) is going to be overseeing the development of the NCF under the stewardship of Chairperson, Dr K Kasturirangan. The same will be supported by the Mandate Group, along with the National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT).
