Google I/O 2019: Big Announcements You Need To Know

It is impossible to imagine a world without Google. The search giant has grown on to become popular hardware and a voice assistant, which delivers messages and manages maps. It is known for running the most successful mobile phone operating system in the world.

The annual developer conference, which began on May 7 was Google’s chance to show the world what it is capable of doing and convince the developers to contribute to achieving its future goals.

Here are some top announcements from the annual conference that took place at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.

THE PIXEL 3A AND 3A XL GO ON SALE

After Google Pixel 1, 2 and 3 took the market by storm, Google is ready to sell its cheaper Pixel devices. Pixel 3A and 3A XL will available at $399 (Rs 27784.27) with headphone jacks. Advanced Camera features like Night Sight, Super Res Zoom and portrait mode on both front and rare cameras will be available. It won’t be having features like waterproofing and wireless charging considering the less price. The devices will be offered in purple, black and white colours.

THE NEST HUB MAX IS A SMART DISPLAY WITH A CAMERA

Google Home Line announced the $229 (Rs 15959.30) Nest Hub Max. The device offers a combination of a security camera, smart display, and loudspeakers in one single gadget. It has a camera built in which is different from the Home Hub. The camera will help members of the family bring up their personalised channel results just by showing their faces.

ANDROID Q BETA 3 DROPS: DARK THEME, A NEW DIGITAL WELLBEING MODE, SMART REPLY

Users can now get a dark theme for their device interface, select the inverted app colours or turn it on using battery saver mode by downloading the Android Q beta. Focus Mode is also being added, through which one will be able to disable required apps for a period of time. It is targeted for parents who wish to limit the mobile usage of their children.

ANDROID WILL SOON OFFER LIVE SUBTITLES ON ALL VIDEOS

Google is being considerate towards people who are deaf or hard of hearing by bringing Live Caption to all videos. The subtitles will be made available on the camera, an app/the web, video chats. Live Caption is being added to phone calls too.

PROJECT MAINLINE AIMS TO GET YOU ANDROID UPDATES FASTER

The users no more have to wait for manufacturers or carriers for software updates. Google will directly release the software updates on the Play Store from where the users can download specific updates for specific parts of the device (for e.g., ‘media components’ for only camera bugs etc). 

GOOGLE MAPS GETS INCOGNITO MODE

The search engine is aware of search and location tracking so in order to make it more personal and secure, Google Maps will soon provide an Incognito mode. Moreover, the users will receive an option to automatically delete their location and web activity every 18 months.

GOOGLE LENS UPDATE

Google Lens is going to get more magical. Users will be able to contextualize a restaurant menu or information on a piece of paper. Lens will search for exact dishes on a menu and show photos of that dish based on Google Maps information to help users know just how it looks before they order. Pointing the camera at the receipt will bring up a calculator that will let the user add a tip then split the bill and hovering the same over magazines that Google has partnered with will also bring images to life, such as a recipe on Bon Appétit Magazine.

GOOGLE ASSISTANT WILL GET SMARTER

Google Assistant will be helping users reply to messages, write emails (even subject lines), insert images in messages, or get directions to personalized results (mom’s house) by using just their voices. One will soon be able to make Google Assistant stop talking by saying “Stop” instead of the full “Hey Google” prompt.
