Born about nine years ago, ‘Trauma’ is still the vital word. Max has never let go of this. Forging ahead would mean overlooking the past. Instead, he dives into an abyss of liquor and pills.
Max Payne 3 guises differently. New York is replaced by hedonistic nightclubs of hot São Paulo, where Max works. Initially raucous, it eventually falls into place as it characterizes the gist of the game.
Dubious characters, a conspiracy and deceit are all there! If you’re not a fan of genre fiction, you might find the plot a bit flimsy. It’s gnarled and bitter with calloused cynicism. You’re never sure if Payne’s searching for release, struggling to save another man’s wife or on a lingering suicide mission.
Gameplay is always firmly tied to its predominant chronicle. Heavily punctuated by cut scenes, it may prove too intrusive; some players might feel that control is being taken away from them too soon or given back too late.
Max Payne 3 is brazenly ferocious. There are a range of typical weapons in the game, but you can only carry two side-arms and one, two-handed weapon at any given time. And if you choose to dualwield, you’re forced into dropping the larger, potentially more powerful weapon. Signature moves return and delight, simple mechanics, but once you’ve mastered combining them, the action and destruction you can orchestrate is breathtaking. What’s disappointing: Max has no new skills on hand.
The multiplayer is the real surprise. Gameplay itself is relentless fun, giving players a sense of freedom absent from the single-player campaign. It’s commendable that innovations in the multiplayer plot are added, sans reworking old intrigue. Strong point: A narrative that engrosses. Players cannot enjoy freedom to reconnoiter and often feel curtailed. So, one may
not relive the nostalgia of Max Payne 1 & 2, yet, Max Payne afficionados can’t bypass it. Max Payne 3 holds sway in its accomplishment, permeates with purpose and thrills its enthusiast.
