Frames Film Festival – Theme Release and Mehfilm

Started in 2003, Frames Film Festival is an initiative taken by the BMM students of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science & Commerce for talented filmmakers all over the world. Today, it is known as India’s largest undergraduate film festival. The much awaited theme release of the festival took place on the 21st of December, 2019 in the college campus. The event commenced at 6pm and the volunteers of all the committees danced to Bollywood hits, giving tribute to actors like Hrithik Roshan, Govinda, and Ranveer Singh, to name a few. A special dance performance by the chairpersons and heads of the committees was one of the highlights of the event. A video based on the theme of the festival made by the volunteers was screened, which officially declared the theme for the 17th Frames Film Festival – Naqaab – see the unseen. Naqaab is that which conceals reality and deceives you into believing only what meets the eye, like an actor donning a role. However, the faint aspects remain unseen, like the crew that works behind the scenes. Both of these are two sides of the same coin – Film Making. This year we focus on unveiling this naqaab. Through this theme, we are not only offering recognition to the unseen parts of film-making but also celebrating them. Over 200 people attended the event, including students from various departments and 4 contingents. The third year students reminisced and shared their experience of organizing the event. The BMM faculty members and the alumni of the college were also present.

A video clip of the CSR activity conducted at ETC Centre, Vashi, by the volunteers of Frames Film Festival on the occasion of International Day of Disabled People was also shown. In the video, the heads and volunteers spoke about their experience of spending time with the specially abled kids. The official trailer for Frames Film Festival 2020 was released, which was accompanied by thunderous applause from the audience.

This was followed by the event ‘Mehfilm’. Started in the year 2018 as a pre event of Frames Film Festival, it includes the screening of a movie in the college campus. It was the event everyone in audience was looking forward to the most. The venue was beautifully decorated with fairy lights and props by the volunteers. This year, the movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was screened and the audience sang along to the movie’s tunes. The audience and the team of Frames both enthusiastically participated in the event, with everyone cheering Go Frames! The pre event was a huge success appreciated by everyone, and was a great start for the journey of Frames Film Festival 2020, which will be held on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of January.
