Delhi man writes an obituary for the death of media, newspaper publishes it

A 24-year-old man, Kartik Sahni recently wrote an ‘obituary’ mourning the ‘demise of Ms ME Dia’ (media). A Delhi newspaper also chose to publish it. The obituary further stated, “With profound regret, we announce the demise of Ms ME Dia, beloved daughter of Mr EE Dom (FR) and wife of Mr T Ruth in New Delhi,”, referring to media, freedom and truth.

Maha: Fadnavis expresses discontent over assault on ex-Navy officer, tells CM to stop this Gundaraj

A few days back, an ex-Navy officer had forwarded a cartoon depicting Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray bowing to Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi and NCP president Sharad Pawar. This led to a few angered Shiv Sena goons assault the officer. Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis condemned this assault. “Extremely sad and shocking incident…please stop this gundaraj Uddhav Thackeray ji. We demand strong action and punishment to these goons,” Fadnavis tweeted.

5 Indian youths who went missing from Arunachal Pradesh handed over by China

Recently, 5 youths had gone missing. Their families had alleged the Chinese troops of abduction. These individuals were found by China’s People’s Liberation Army and handed over to India. Indian Army took over all five individuals at Kibitu today after carrying out all formalities. 

COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin’s first phase of animal trials successful

Bharat Biotech International Limited’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin that was in its animal trail phase, has been successful in Phase I clinical trials in India, the company said. The results showed the “remarkable immunogenicity and protective efficacy” of the vaccine, the company added. 

Jammu and Kashmir announces Rs 5 lakh as annual health insurance for residents

Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant governor has announced to provide Rs 5 lakh to every household under the Jammu and Kashmir health scheme. This scheme is intended to provide universal health insurance to all residents of Jammu and Kashmir at the likely annual cost of Rs 123 crore. During the launch of this scheme, the lieutenant governor said the government’s core motive was the welfare of all the resident and improvement of standard of life.

33 year old Maya Gabeiraa, a Brazilian surfer recently broke her own Guinness World Records title for the largest wave surfed by surfing a 73.5-foot wave (22.4 metres). She was also received the Biggest Wave Award by the World Surf League (WSL).

In an attempt to make banning manual scavenging stricter, Govt planning to introduce new bill

In an attempt to make the law banning manual scavenging more stringent, the government is planning to a bill in the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation (Amendment) Bill, 2020, proposes to completely mechanize sewer cleaning and provide better protection at work and compensation in case of accidents, officials said. At present, employing any person for hazardous cleaning of sewers and septic tanks is legally punishable with imprisonment of up to five years or a fine up of to Rs 5 lakh or both.

MIT develops device to track people’s sleeping postures using radio signals

Researchers at MIT have developed a wireless way to study and keep a check of person’s sleep postures by making the use of reflected radio signals from a device mounted on a wall. The device, named BodyCompass, eliminated the need of any cameras or sensors to be attached to the body for the purpose of providing sleep data. The newly developed device focuses on signals that bounce off a person’s chest and belly to check how the body is angled.

New gecko species named ‘Palakkadensis’ discovered in Kerala

A new species of gecko has been discovered in Kerala’s Palakkad, which the scientist have named it Palakkad Dwarf Gecko or Cnemaspis Palakkadensis. While talking about the discovery of the species, a scientist said, “An average Palakkad Dwarf Gecko will be 32.2 mm. It also has beautiful black and brown patches on its dorsal (upper) body and an orange shade on its chin or ventral part of its body.”
