First Student Film Awards and Student Film Festival of India
As a part of the celebration of 100 years of Indian Cinema, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute ( SRFTI), Kolkata, have announced the launch of the first National Students’ Film Awards and Students Film Festival of India. The event will be held in association with the Directorate of Film Festivals which is under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi. The festival will be held every year with venues alternating between FTII Pune and SRFTI Kolkata.
The awards will be given in three categories; fiction, non-fiction and animation. Films can be submitted from any institution, as long as the films are made as a part of the institution’s curriculum. Films can also be submitted in any language provided that the films are subtitled in English. All entries must be sent in through an institution and a maximum of 4 entries per category can be submitted. The last date for submitting entries is January 15, 2013 and the tentative dates for the festival and awards function is set to be before May 2013.
The organisers hope that the film festival will provide a platform for young and upcoming student filmmakers to showcase their talent and share their work. They also aim to bridge the gap between filmmakers, students and the audience with the help of the festival.

CBSE TO DISPLAY PARTICULARS OF JEE (MAIN) EXAMINATION 2013 CANDIDATES IN JAN

The decision of The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to display the particulars of candidates who will be taking the JEE (Main) Examination 2013 came after it was noticed that the candidates were committing several mistakes while filling out their online registration forms. The Board will display the particulars of the candidates on the JEE (Main) website in the second week of Jan 2013 so that the candidates can rectify their incorrect particulars and details. Candidates who have made errors or have forgotten to put signatures, thumb impression, mailing address, obtain signature of parent/guardian and to paste attested photographs are advised by the board to download a duplicate copy of Confirmation Page, finish and compile it, and forward the complete form to the JEE (Main) Unit.

Stanford’s Graduate School of Business plans e-courses for entrepreneurs

Stanford’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) is bringing innovation to the forefront by introducing a certificate programme in innovation and entrepreneurship online. This is a great advantage for all the aspirants who cannot go abroad to avail this education. The premier institution will make its physical presence in the city of Bangalore which has a growing eco-system that is perfect for the course. The programme will run for a duration of eight weeks. It will teach entrepreneurs to formulate, develop and commercially exploit innovative ideas. Core business skills, experiential learning and working with team mates will also be imparted. Stanford will also launch a Stanford Ignite programme this year. The fees for the certificate programme will be $995 and the tuition fee for the Stanford Ignite programme will be $8,350.

SIESONS 2013 – CHAOS MAGICK – (18th-19th Jan)
SIESONS, the annual cultural extravaganza of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science and Commerce commences on January 18 and 19, 2013. This year, breaking conventions, SIESONS will put forth bundles of surprises that will amaze one and all. Along with a host of big brands, exciting prizes, celebrities and much, much more, SIESONS is going places, literally. From performing arts to sports and literary arts, there’s something for everyone. What’s more, SIESONS has set out to promote the message of cleanliness and basic hygiene by organising a cleanup drive in association with the Rotary Club of Navi Mumbai, on January 7th and 8th 2013. The drive, held at APMC market in Navi Mumbai will comprise street plays, interactive sessions, workshops and much more.

PULSE 2012-13 – (31st Jan-2nd Feb)
The most amazing blend of technology and fun is here with Pulse 2012-13, SVKM’s DJ Sanghvi College’s innovative annual technical festival. PULSE with its reshaping the world theme, shall run from the 31st January to 2nd February, 2013 with a lot of pre-festival events as well. With pollution and chemicals enveloping us every day, PULSE aims at providing a fresh relief with its green initiatives. This year PULSE is also holding a National Level Technical Paper Presentation and State level Tech Expo. The last date of submission of the abstract idea is 12th January, 2013; the list of selected candidates will be displayed on 21st January and the final draft submission will be on 25th January. PULSE will have exciting events like National level IC Car Engine Race, DJ Talks, Code Jamming, etc.

Indian Graduates Unfit for Jobs?
If you think your graduation degree will guarantee you employment, think again. According to a report by McKinsey and Company, only 51 per cent Indian employers thought Indian graduates were prepared for entry-level positions in their field of study. However, 83 per cent of Indian institutions thought their students were well prepared for employment. The leader of McKinsey and Company’s education practice in India, Ramya Venkatraman said, “The skills the youth bring in do not match what the employers are looking for Employers find the largest gap when it comes to problem-solving and communication.” So if you’re looking to work after graduation, it might be time to start developing your soft skills.

Goa’s expansions into higher education
With an attempt to further its aim of developing the state as a premier destination for higher education, Goa will be opening up new institutes for training students in the fields of law and fashion. The state has been given the go ahead for new centres of the Indian School of Law and the National Institute of Fashion Technology which are expected to be opened as soon as possible. The next steps on the agenda are to get clearance to have a design school opened in the state as well as get as many already established institutes to be accredited by an organisation like NAAC. It seems Goa might soon become a key option for students of higher education.
