Avocado is one of the best ingredients for your hair. It contains Biotin (Vit B7) and Vitamin E which is a popular hair loss treatment and reduces oxidative stress (which can cause premature hair loss)  in the scalp. It boosts hair growth and provides nourishment to the scalp. Biotin enriched hair products can prevent hair thinning and improves the keratin structure of hair. Hence, Avocado works as a repairing ingredient while banana conditions and replenishes the hair. The skin of the hair follicle is also taken care of due to the presence of copper in Avocado which builds the elastin and collagen.

How to prepare: Mixed mashed Avocado and mashed banana ( No lumps). Apply on hair and let it sit for an hour then wash off.

Honestly, this treatment has an unpleasant odor and is messy but it results in healthy and shiny hair. Amino acids (protein) present in the rice water improve the texture, elasticity, and strength of the hair and also promote growth and regeneration of the hair. The presence of Vitamins B, C, and E stimulate the growth of hair, while also working on healing damaged parts of the hair simultaneously. One can also use boiled flax seed water for hair growth.

How to prepare:  Soak a fistful of rice in water overnight and apply after shampoo. Leave in for 20 minutes then wash off with warm water.  Use this treatment once in a week or two as excess usage might cause ‘Protein Overload” resulting in dry and brittle hair.

Applying Mayonnaise to hair makes it glossy and shiny as it enriches the strands with oil. It helps repairing the frail, brittle and dry strands. It should be used in smaller proportions or it can give a flat look to your hair. Eggs are enriched with proteins, 8.3g per egg! Half the protein is in the white and half in the yolk. It contains over 20 nutrients. The yolk contains natural fats that moisturize the hair, hence repairing dry and brittle hair and improving texture. The whites contain enzymes that fight bacteria, clean and refresh the scalp and reduce oiliness and greasiness.

How to prepare: For a moisturizing treatment you can use the yolk of an egg and for a cleansing treatment you can use the egg white. Using the entire egg can give a more wholesome benefit. Pair it with 1 ½  spoon of mayonnaise and let it sit in the hair for 30 minutes before wash off.

Itchiness, redness, small bumps on the scalp is due to an inflammation of the hair follicles. It can occur in places on skin where there is hair growth which  includes the scalp. It is due to staph bacteria and fungi. Aspirin can help reduce the inflammation and exfoliate the flakes. Paired along with Aloe Vera, it is the best thing for hair and skin. Apple cider vinegar, which is also scientifically backed up and known as a good rinse off treatment for reducing hair and scalp pH level, can be used. Due to this, scalp produced acidic sebum combats bacteria and keeps your hair strong and prevents fallouts. The tea tree is anti-inflammatory in nature. It moisturizes the hair which leads to its growth and prevents flakiness and itchiness which could cause dandruff.

Apart from the above DIY Hair Masks, there are many other ingredients like Shea butter, Olive Oil, Coconut oil, Lavender oil, milk, lemon, mint, etc that can be used for the stimulation of hair growth or prevention of hair loss. A combination of the above mentioned DIY Hair Masks can be used but it is important to patch test before complete application especially if using something from the acidic family. All of these masks may differ according to the requirement of hair type or what the damage repair calls for but it can be used by men and women alike.
