Frontline workers and MBBS students to get COVID-19 vaccine first

As Bharat Biotech is coming closer to making its COVID-19 vaccine — Covaxin available by February, the first vaccine to be made available in India, the government has begun finalizing the vaccine delivery procedure and identifying the priority groups that will receive the vaccine first The government has decided to provide the vaccine to a total of 30 crore people in the initial phase. These 30 cr people have been divided into 4 categories which include 1 crore healthcare professionals, 2 crore frontline workers, 26 crore people above the age of 50, and 1 crore belong to the special category. Vaccines administration to these groups will be free of cost. 

India launches EOS-01 today, its first space mission of 2020

India, today, sent its first space mission of 2020 by launching EOS-01, an earth observation satellite. EOS-01, along with nine satellites from foreign countries, was launched by a PSLV rocket this afternoon. This is ISRO’s first mission of the year. The satellite EOS-01 is another Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT) that will work with RISAT-2B and RISAT-2BR1 launched last year. 

HC directs JNU to reserve 5% of final admission for disabled students

Delhi HC told The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been directed by the Delhi High Court to reserve 5% of the total admission for persons with disabilities (PWDs). This came when the court was hearing a PIL alleging that JNU has reserved less than 5% seats for PWDs in the academic session 2020-21. 

JNU’s Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam likely to be prosecuted under Anti-terror law

Delhi government has nodded for the prosecution of former JNU student leader Umar Khalid and PhD scholar at the varsity, Sharjeel Imam in connection with a case related to the communal violence that broke out in the month of February in northeast Delhi. As a result of this nod, the police can now name the two students in their supplementary charge sheet, informed an official.

214 people in Denmark infected with Mink-related Coronavirus

In another shocking news related to the pandemic, Denmark has found mink-related versions of coronavirus in its 214 citizens since June. Though this new development has cautioned and made Denmark cull its entire mink population, only found in mink-originated Cornavirus in 12 people and on five mink farms. Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen has said that this “could pose risk to future vaccines”.

Trump told to ‘put his big boy pants on’ and accept defeat by Philadelphia Mayor

Jim Kenney, mayor of Philadelphia commented on Trump’s allegations for the presidential polls as being ‘baseless’, by stating that the president should ‘put his big boy pants on’, and learn to accept defeat. “I think what the President needs to do is frankly put his big boy pants on,” Kenny said during a press conference, reported CNN. Kenney also added that a simple democratic process was in action in the state while counting the ballots.

Species may lose 23% of their habitat globally due to climate change by 2100

Mammals, birds and amphibians globally could lose 23% of their natural habitat range as a damaging of climate change by 2100, the University of Cambridge has said. A study conducted by the university revealed that the species have lost an average of 18% of their natural habitat. It also analyzed in detail the changes that have occurred in the geographical range of 16,919 species from 1700 to the present day.

Delhi CM assures citizens that just like 1st & 2nd COVID-19 waves, 3rd too will end soon

Delhi CM Arvid Kejriwal has assured his citizens of Delhi that just as the first and second wave of coronavirus, the third one too will end soon. In addition to this, he urged the citizen to continue wearing masks to curb the spread of COVID-19 amid the festive season and rising air pollution. 

Goa Health Minister on Sunburn Festival: anything can be organized with stringent SOPs

Vishwajit Rane, Health Minister of Goa, has said that anything can be organized as long as there are stringent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place while speaking about the Sunburn Festival to be conducted in Goa. “Anything can be organised as long as there are stringent SOPs in place. These SOPs are managed by respective collectors and properly monitored. It is necessary to have stringent SOPs,” the minister said. He emphasized that the COVID-19 cases in the state have come down. 

Model-actor Milind Soman booked for posting nude picture on social media

Popular model-actor Milind Soman has been booked by the Goa police for running nude on a beach and uploading an obscene picture on his social media handle.  Goa Suraksha Manch, a political outfit formed by former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingker has filed the complaint. The model has been booked under IPC Section 294 (obscenity) and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
