Yahoo Shutting Down Online Magazines

In the beginning of February, Yahoo has disclosed its plans to lay off 15% of its workforce and streamlining its content into four areas, namely, news, sports, finance and lifestyle. It planned on consolidating some of its digital magazines and shutting down others, it was also looking forward to a potential sale.

Almost a few days after, we hear about Yahoo shutting down its seven digital magazines. Yahoo Food, Yahoo Health, Yahoo Parenting, Yahoo Makers, Yahoo Travel, Yahoo Autos and Yahoo Real Estate will be closed. Martha Nelson who joined Yahoo as a Global Editor-in-Chief a while ago, released the news in her blog post. This is being done as part of cost cutting moves by the company.

Though Yahoo hasn’t disclosed how many employees they’ll let go, or if they will lay off employees, but we’re sure it’s happening.

Yahoo’s TV, Movies, Music, Beauty, Style, Celebrity and Tech are working for now. “As we make these changes, we acknowledge the talent and dedication of an extraordinary group of journalists who brought new and newsworthy content to Yahoo,” Nelson wrote. “While these digital magazines will no longer be published, you will continue to find the topics they covered, as well as style, celebrity, entertainment, politics, tech and much more across our network.”
