“There is nothing more liberating for a singer than creating his/her own independent music”, says Sukriti and Prakriti Kakkar, the Bollywood twin singers who very recently released their new song, ‘Mafiyaan’.
In no time, Mafiyaan became popular garnering 15 million views. This melodic song comes with a strong and unique message that tells us that not all breakups are followed by pain and heartbreak. The twins were overwhelmed by the response the song received as they stated that, in a country where Bollywood music is majorly accepted, receiving such great amount of love for an independent original is a big success.
Not just the song but the video too is shot brilliantly in which these two singing divas have looked absolutely stunning. The video is directed by Adil Sheikh who has also directed the song Dilbar (remake). Along with the two, rapper MellowD too has rapped in the song. The video song also features MJ5, a popular dance crew.
After giving us some of the hit songs of Bollywood like Kar Gayi Chul (Kapoor and Sons), Subah Subah (Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety), and Pehli Baar (Dil Dhadakne Do), the Kakkar sisters are now all set to create more of independent music.
The two sisters responded to their calling for singing at the young age of 13 when they started participating in various singing competitions. When asked about their first stage performance, they recollected that the first time they sang in front of an audience was in a mall, on children’s day. It’s then that both of them embarked on their singing journey and they definitely “have a long way to go”, say the two of them with a smile.
Though they have many things in common, they share many differences not just in their personal lives but also in their singing profession. To get a glimpse of the same, click on the link and watch their full interview.
