VESIT students embark on mass cleanliness drive at Chembur station

Reaffirming their commitment to bring the finer principles of PM NarendraModi’s “Swacch Bharat “ campaign into reality, more than 200 engineering students of Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology (VESIT) joined in the endeavor to clean Chembur station and its surroundings. The students were helped in their efforts by officials of Railway and M Ward of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The students have adopted the station since 2015 and have initiated regular cleanliness drives to help the station rid of filth and spread the message of a garbage-free Mumbai among the masses.

“Our students have been self-inspired to undertake this drive. Cleaning public places and beautifying our surroundings is important to attaining public health and well-being for all. The student fraternity from across the city should increasingly participate in such community initiatives, with a zero-tolerance policy for garbage,” stated VESIT principal Dr (Mrs) J.M. Nair.

Students of VESIT also interacted with members of the public and made them aware of the importance of not spitting and maintaining cleanliness in public places. They also painted walls which had been tainted with paan stains and graffiti and also displayed placards and boards to educate the public on various issues like tree plantation, drug abuse, road safety and organ donation.

“Every like-minded resident of this vibrant city envisions a clean and green Mumbai. This is just a small effort on the part of our students to get our environment rid of garbage and filth and ensure that public places do not become dumping grounds. It is rightly said that charity begins at home and if every student, every citizen, every individual becomes an agent of social change, it is not long before the long-awaited dream of a clean and disease-free India is translated into reality,” stated Shri. Dinesh Tahiliani, Secretary, VES.
