When Stanford University offered a free introductory distance learning online degree in artificial intelligence, thousands of people signed up for the course that begun in September 2011. It happens to be the world’s first totally free and open-access, university-level course. Roughly 58,000 people signed up for this course in August itself. One of the course instructors happens to be the renowned artificial intelligence expert Dr Sebastian Thrun. The aim of offering an online course was to bring education to places that can’t be reached.
