Software Every Media Student Must Know

Just having a degree in Mass media is not enough to survive in the media industry. Media is an ever-changing industry but the basics remain the same. Working as a media professional you will have to deal with websites, videos as well as pictures. It is an industry where you are expected to know everything. There are few software whose basics you must know.

Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is every media person’s best friend. From posters to packaging, photo editing to photo enhancing, basic banners to beautiful websites, changing the color to changing the background of an image, unforgettable logos to eye-catching icons, Photoshop keeps the creators moving. Photography to advertising, all the fields use Photoshop on a daily basis. Knowing how to operate the software will make a lot of difference when you enter the media world.

Adobe Premiere Pro/Final Cut Pro

Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro both are video editing software. Premiere Pro is compatible with both Mac OS as well as Windows whereas FCP operates only on Mac OS. If you are dealing with any kind of visual content, these software are made for you. After effects, adding subtitles, 8K video, as well as 3D videos all, can be created and edited on these software.

Adobe InDesign

InDesign provides the tools necessary to design pages and create visual layouts that can be used for both print and digital media such as newspapers, magazines, brochures, flyers, etc. If you want to get into publishing media houses, you must know the software. InDesign with the combination of Photoshop is a very powerful skill which can help you score a job in the above mentioned fields.

There is no organization that doesn’t have its own website or a blog. WordPress is a website builder and a Blog maker. It allows you to create and edit posts and pages, upload your photos and videos, view statistics and reply to comments. You can track the activity of the website and use SEO. WordPress is free software available for Unix-like, Windows and Linux. WordPress is the basis for starting and managing any website.

Adobe Illustrator

Graphic Designing and Illustrator go hand in hand. Illustrator allows you to turn simple shapes and colours into sophisticated logos, icons and graphics. You can draw or import your drawings on the software and enhance or recolor imported photos to turn them into works of art. Typographic designs can also be created on Illustrator. Logo makers use illustrator to transform their creative ideas into beautiful illustrations.
