Scrutinizing Teaching As A Profession In India

Drippings of dilemma conquer most of us not only when we sit to finalise our career but also when advising younger ones to opt for a befitting career. The haven of teaching as a profession is earmarked as the last option in India. This profession is a subway for other careers to manifest in full bloom. The wing of this profession is mighty to carve the wing of other professions through the essence of ‘guidance.’ People linger in and out to receive the best possible outlets of apt guidance and the flocked outlet is only of a teacher. The far-flung list of aspirations is prepared by us but we scale up the aspirations based on its mammoth-sized returns. Teaching does not align with that so it is a less preferred career but most sought afterwards for guidance. People in India are chasing their high-oriented goals and that’s not an unpalatable point but there are some professions that are a foundation of a society but they are perceived with disgraceful lenses. Teaching is one epitome. The modern youth barely aspire to this career. That’s agreeable that this profession is entitled to more esteem, more pay and more power.

India has always been inclined towards its guru shishya methodology. The ancient texts have substantiated this fact and it is apt to say that in former eras the teachers were made to sit on a right throne that they accurately deserves. When it comes to the discussion on well-bred behaviour towards a teacher, then India has a figurehead in that aspect. But it is saddening to decipher that this profession is receiving a scornful edge from the students. The zenith of esteem that was embedded in teachers is deteriorating. Parents also find this profession not worthy to be glued on as a priority.

Teaching as a profession is by chance entitled to the masses in India. Undoubtedly, there are a plethora of reasons that have caused this deterrence towards this profession. The unjust regard given to the teacher is utmost deprivation of teaching as a profession. The requisites of this profession that is B.Ed and M.Ed have been structured with an aim to groom a teacher that satiates the need of moulding a student in a right way, but it is groaning to know that these courses have been distorted by most of the institutions where the floor of  a trading market is unfolded in the process of undergoing these courses. This is not burrowing out the shimmery edge of the student undergoing this course. Thus, efficacy is lagging here. Other deprivation of teaching as a profession is paucity of incentives affixed specifically for a private teacher. The incentives are a driving force to erect a particular mindset of this generation.

The storehouse of dedication, ignite of enlightenment, roots of inspiration, and paddler of success is the teacher. Society is gloomy when the bloom of teachers is fading. The hullabaloo in this profession is not suitable for any community. A teacher designates a door to a path of viability for a student and opening that door is a duty of a student. This is a joint journey. Teaching as a profession has pumped up the dependency of a person on an experienced and skilled person and this flamboyant frame is well-fitted with a picture of a teacher. We deliberate on the grave issues that need to be attended to but we have an oversight on this grave issue, the outlooks towards teaching as a profession needs to be reformed to valorise the nation-builders. Our low esteem is not a justified approach for them. Individual and collective both stages will channelise the effulgence to surround this profession more intensely.
