Robotic Woks Serve Food To Customers At Boston Restaurant

Robotics has been taken to an all new level these days with the release of very unique bots. From Saudi Arabia declaring its robot Sophia a citizen of the country to robots which work as concierges in Japan, robots are gaining popularity quickly. One such, experiment conducted by the students of MIT, resulted in robotic woks which make food.

Spyce, a restaurant in Boston, USA, now has seven robotic woks which serve food to customers thanks to a group of MIT students who have also made a bot which can kick footballs. The woks make it very simple for the customer to order and receive food. The customers only have to choose their meal from a touchscreen kiosk and the woks will start cooking the food in a drum-like machine.

The woks use magnetic induction to heat the food and maintain their hygiene by cleaning themselves after every meal. However, the robotic woks aren’t yet perfect. They can cook the food but they cannot prepare the ingredients or garnish the food to make it look presentable.

For preparing of the ingredients and garnishing, human hands are still required and hence the robot cannot yet steal jobs from all human employees. The reviews of the restaurant are pretty good and now there is an added attraction of the robotic woks tossing around the vegetables and cooking the food.

Using robots for our day-to-day task has been a debate for most of the 21st century. The debate might go on but it is safe to say robots and machines already do more tasks than we give them credit for. The robotic wok is only an added feature which restaurants will seek to use as it involves hiring fewer employees and having more precision in cooking. This venture will not only be profitable for the restaurants but will be a step further in technological advancements.
