Rising Star – Salman Yusuff Khan (July 2013)

YOUR FAVOURITE DANCE STYLE
It depends from season to season. This season it’s tango.

YOUR EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH SALMAN KHAN
It was a treat to have shared screen space with him since I’ve looked up to him all my childhood as a style icon. Now after having met and worked with him, I’m a bigger fan of his.

YOUR NEXT PROJECT IS
I have just finished my second film as an actor by Vivek Agnihotri and have also choreographed all the songs of the film. I’m also reading two scripts for now, which I can’t really talk much about.

YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION IS
My mother

BIGGEST COMPLIMENT YOU’VE RECEIVED
When Dilip Kumar saab and Saira Banu ma’am recognised me and appreciated me saying they watch the show only for me. It was the biggest compliment of my life since my dad and my grandfather have been such huge fans of him. One of my wishes is to make my dad meet Dilip saab.

MOST CHALLENGING PERFORMANCE
It was during the shoot of ABCD when I had to perform a solo and I had a 103 fever that day. I didn’t want to show it since the entire cast and crew was ready to shoot and with Prabhu sir, Remo sir and India’s best dancers in front of me. I had to be head strong and perform for myself then, since I’m so competitive by nature. After every shot I would go out and throw up and come back, ready for the next shot. And I did it. Allah for sure
helped me.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE CHOREOGRAPHERS
It’s very important to be versatile in different dance forms and to have a technical knowledge of the camera angles. Gone are the days when choreography on TV was taken for granted.

This versatile dancer has been flaunting his moves on television as well as in films. After winning the first season of Dance India Dance, Salman Yusuf Khan has participated in three seasons of Jhalak Dikhla Ja, starred in Remo’s dance flick ABCD and also shared screen space with Salman Khan in the movie Wanted.
