Revised Mumbai University Law Exam Dates Upset Students

The University of Mumbai has rescheduled the law exams of the three-year and five-year LLB course, for the second time, after getting multiple requests from Company Secretary examinations (CS) students due to clashing examination dates. However, the revised date has not gone down well with students.

The exams, which commence on December 15, will now be held on January 3 and 5 for Semester 3, and on January 2 and 4 for Semester 5. Recently, the university had postponed 13 law examinations after students demanded that the re-examinations for students who had not cleared a previous subject, be held only after re-evaluation of all old examinations are out.

Ashutosh Paibhale, a student of Government Law College told TOI, “University rules say students cannot pursue two professional courses simultaneously. Due to a few hundred students, several thousands are being inconvenienced.” Students claim that many of their year-end plans are in trouble, as vacation bookings had already been done, leaving them with no choice but to bear the brunt of expenses that they will incur for cancellations. Many students also had internships lined up in January.

The new schedule was announced after members of the Student Law Council staged a protest outside the University’s Kalina campus. “Initially, the exams were to get over on December 19. Later, it was rescheduled to end on December 23. Now, it ends in January, affecting all my other plans. I may lose lakhs of rupees as my family trip to Dubai from January 3 may have to be cancelled”, student Labdhi Parekh told The Hindu.

An official from the University said that the exam dates were postponed upon the students’ request.
