Restaurant Review – The Urban Foundry : Fusion Food At Its Best

After a successful run in Pune, The Urban Foundry has opened its doors to the residents of Mumbai. The ambience is quite lively with old school music and dark, rustic interiors to accompany it. The restaurant serves up delectable plates of Indo-Asian fanfare, and some of the most quirky cocktails the city has to offer.

We kick-started our sojourn with Thai Chicken Thigh, succulent pieces of chicken in a spicy Thai marinade. For the first time ever, we tried Chicken Vada Pav (yes, Chicken!). The ‘vada’ was an Asian flavoured Chicken mince cutlet, and paired with delicious green chutney, it certainly lived up to our expectations. We also tried Achari Paneer, and Kothimbir Vadi Kaprow, an Asian spin on a Maharashtrian classic.

From the mains, we savoured Yellow Curry Prawn Dumplings – dumplings made to perfection served on a bed of delectable Asian flavoured curry and rice – Dal Bhaati Khowsuey, which we loved, and Butter Chicken with Rice – a little too heavy on coconut for our liking but the rice mellowed it down. All of this was washed down with Knuckle up – a tasty concoction of vodka, lemongrass, pomegranate and lime. We also had Smooth n Slender, a refreshing watermelon, mint, strawberry and lime flavoured mocktail. Since there’s always room for dessert, we had the Gulab Jamun Rabri Cone. The size of the dessert and quantity of rabri in the cone were a disappointment. Nevertheless, the Gulab Jamun was light and delicious.

With its tastefully done interiors and numerous variety of food options, this place is a must visit if you’re an Asian food fanatic.
