Perfect Lockdown Book Series Recommendation For You

With no prior commitments or engagements, given the lockdown like situations still existing, one has abundant time at their disposal. This is the best time where one can pick up a long book series and get lost in the world that the writer has conjured. The author of ‘Chronicles of Narnia’, C.S. Lewis’ once quoted, “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” But here’s a list of some long book series that will fairly suit you long enough.

1. The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith

This book series is perhaps the best work of the author who has penned many great series like Isabel Dalhousie series and 44 Scotland Series. However, his best work is most definitely The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. The book narrates the tale of Botswana’s No. 1 (and only) lady detective – Precious Ramotswe. This series is for you if you are looking for something wise, insightful, and willing to know about Africa.

2. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket

A precious gem of a series that is the creative genius of Lemony Snicket (real name Daniel Handler). The series follows the unfortunate events that plague the life of Baudelaire orphans. This series will be the best one if you are intrigued with metafiction and are looking for literature that breaks form.

3. Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett

If I have to sum up this book series in a sentence, I’ll just say, it is the Douglas Adams of fantasy. This is a comic fantasy book series that will surely awe you with its creativity and humour. Although all the books in this series are written as standalone pieces, to grasp the complete fantasy landscape start with The Color of Magic. This series is sure to leave you hungry for more.

4. The Dark Tower series by Stephen King

This series is the best starting point to dive into the creative genius of Stephen King. It consists of seven novels, one novella, and even a graphic book series adaptation. In this multiverse of Stephen King we follow the journey of the last Gunslinger Roland. Take up this series and you will definitely fall for this fantasy series with its first line “The man in Black fled across the Desert, and the Gunslinger followed.”

5. The Vampire Chronicle by Anne Rice

This gothic and horror-filled series penned by Anne Rice is the best Vampire fiction of our times.  A 13 book long series is the best if you are looking for a good vampire horror book that does justify the paranormal aspect. These books will engage you without making the vampire a shiny character that makes the protagonist fall in love with.

6. The Century series by Ken Follet

This epic historical series by Ken Follet is filled to the brim with love, hatred, war, and revolution. The tale narrates the journey of five families as they navigate their life against the struggle of the First World War. This book series is perfect for every history fan who wants to get a glimpse of the time as historic as World War I.

7. The Realm of the Elderling by Robin Hobb

Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden or better known as Robin Hobb has written a huge expanse of books that sum up in the fictional realm of the Elderling. Her works consist of numerous trilogies and a quartet that can be read individually or together. To begin your epic journey of this fantasyland, pick up the first book Assassin’s Apprentice.
Frank Zappa had once said about the great dilemma every reader faces, “So many books, so little time.” But with the current situation we might fairly say, “So many books and oh so much time!”
