Nagpur | IIM Nagpur’s Indo-Japan Research Centre hosted the popular and highly praised Japanese festival Obon Matsuri, portraying Japan’s cultural amalgamation. The cultural event brought to the fore the rich traditions of Japan, thus paving the way for students, faculty, and staff to learn and explore that.
Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director IIM Nagpur, said that organizing this festival in the Institute featuring innumerable activities that allow participants to immerse themselves in Japanese culture projects shows how the Institute always encourages holistic learning with global perspectives.
The beautifully decorated venue entrance with the tall traditional Torii gates embellished with pink cherry blossoms called Sakura projected Japanese traditions. The festival’s key attractions were the workshops on using chopsticks, practicing Japanese calligraphy, and learning the art of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. They provided a hands-on experience, thus offering a deeper and more thorough understanding of Japanese customs and traditions.
Other notable attractions of the festival were fun and engaging activities related to Japanese traditions. The participants dressed in traditional Japanese attire like yukata and played classic Japanese games like Kendama and Map Quiz, the major attractions.
Such activities created a festive and enjoyable atmosphere. The food stalls serving authentic Japanese cuisine featured the Japanese cultural experience on the IIM Nagpur campus. The participants savoured the flavours of Japan, trying popular dishes, especially ramen, and gyoza.
The Obon Matsuri festival at IIM Nagpur provided an excellent opportunity for everyone to learn about Japanese culture, have fun, and make new friends.
“As we look forward to more such events, we encourage everyone to participate and contribute to the growing cultural ties between India and Japan,” said Professor Rahul Sett, Chair, Indo-Japan Research Centre at IIM Nagpur, while the event concluded.
