Nutriception 2020 – Incepting ‘Poshan’ With Unerring Intuition

“Be the change to feel the change” is what the Convener wanted to convey to all her colleagues and students through her special session ‘CONVENER UNPLUGGED WITH DR ARNAB DATTA’.

At a time when most colleges are hosting webinars and e-conferences in this pandemic, Sarojini Naidu College for Women (IQAC and Food and Nutrition Department)  brought about a welcome change by organizing the BIGGEST VIRTUAL NUTRIFEST OF EASTERN INDIA, NUTRICEPTION 2020 to celebrate the National Nutrition Month. If we quote Dt Rima Mandal (Convener, Nutriception 2020 & HOD, Dept of Food and Nutrition, SNCW), ”NUTRICEPTION since its inception has aimed at imparting nutrition knowledge and greater awareness about dietetics and well-being in today’s world and it also aims at inculcating a sense of pride amidst the Nutrition and Dietetic Professionals which would lead to a Nutrition Revolution in the near future”.

She says, ‘We are extremely glad to inform that we have got more than a thousand participations in a plethora of virtual activities that were held in Nutriception 2020-NUTRIMETRIX: National E-Nutri-Quiz Competition, MENU WITHOUT MAGMA: National Level No Gas Cooking Competition, NUTRIFY INDIA: National E-Poster Making and Demonstration Competition, and BE THE FOOD DOCTOR: National E-Nutri-Slogan Writing Competition. Students and teachers alike from all over India like the states Tamilnadu, Uttarpradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, and even from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, and a few European countries as well showcased their talents and enriched Nutriception in its birth year.

There was a  LIVE VIRTUAL PROGRAMME from the college’s official youtube platform to supplement these events on 7th September 2020 at 7 pm with Prof. Dr. Basab Chaudhuri, the honorable Vice-Chancellor of West Bengal State University, Kolkata inaugurating the sacrosanct occasion. This was followed by keynote speeches of Dr. Urmila Ukil,  Principal, SNCW, and Dr. Sudeshna Chatterjee, IQAC Coordinator, SNCW, who detailed about the strides of SNCW, Food and Nutrition Department towards building a healthy society and imparting Practical Education. The department also arranged a separate session to honour the themes of the National Nutrition Month ‘Identification & tracking of children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and plantation drive for promotion of KITCHEN GARDEN under ”POSHAN KE LIYE PAUDHE’.Then apart from the announcement of the results of the abovementioned four events, eminent speakers like Dr Arnab Datta (IPGME&R and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata), Dr Agnimita Giri Sarkar (Institute of Child Health, Kolkata), Dr Ayesha Amin (NRS Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata), Dr. Anu Agrawal (Dietitian, AIIMS, Rishikesh) and Prof. Sankarashish Mukhopadhyay (WBSU, Kolkata) have imparted valuable insights on various topics at Nutriception 2020.

The program ended with the much-anticipated session “Convener Unplugged with Dr Arnab Datta”, where Dt Rima Mandal and Dr Arnab Datta spoke about and for both doctors and dietetic fraternities. The enthralling session fostered a belief that ‘Every area of trouble gives out a ray of hope, and the one unchangeable certainty is that nothing is certain or unchangeable.’

The college looks forward to bring  NUTRICEPTION Live next year along with Online Virtual Events with grandeur and magnificence.
