IAF AFCAT 2020 exam postponed to October, new dates released

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 2020 has been rescheduled by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to October 3 and 4, 2020. The decision of the same has been uploaded on the IAF’s official website. The AFCAT is conducted by the Indian Air Force twice a year once in February and then in August/September, for the purpose of appointing select Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical).

Maharashtra govt  to conduct MHT CET from October 1-15

The Maharashtra government has decided to go ahead and conduct MHT CET 2020 between October 1 and 15. Uday Samant, State Higher, and Technical Education Minister has said that the decision on final dates will be conveyed soon. The examinations will mostly be conducted for engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture courses in the first week of October. 

3 RPF personnel honoured with Jeevan Raksha medals by the President

President Ram Nath Kovind has honoured three RPF personnel with Jeevan Raksha Medals. Late Jagbir Singh, Constable, Northern Railway (NR), was posthumously awarded Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak for sacrificing his life while saving a couple and four children in Delhi. Shiv Charan Singh, Constable, WR and NW Railway Head Constable Mukesh Kumar Meena were awarded with the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak.

Amid ceasefire violations by Pak, bunkers are being built in J&K’s Poonch

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has constructed bunkers along the Line of Control in Poonch district, keeping in mind the safety of locals amid ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Pakistan has violated the ceasefire over 8,500 times since January 1, 2018, the Home Affairs Ministry said in an official statement.

Mumbai’s Aarey Colony to get 1/5th of its land reserved for forest

After a long long time, the government of Maharashtra today blessed the media with some good news for the people of Maharashtra with its decision to reserve one-fifth (almost 600 acres) of Mumbai’s 3,166-acre Aarey Colony land for the forest. This area, however, does not involve the land on which the car shed for the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro Line 1 corridor is to be constructed. This decision of the government has protected the rights of the tribal community and other concerned groups. 

CSIR-CMERI of West Bengal to install world’s largest solar tree

The world’s largest solar tree has been developed and is soon going to be installed by the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CMERI) at CSIR-CMERI Residential Colony in West Bengal’s Durgapur. The capacity of the solar tree is above 11.5 kWp and can generate 12,000-14,000 units of clean power annually. There are 35 solar panels fixed in each tree with a capacity of 330 wp each.

India’s 1st regional voters’ awareness centre soon to be set up in Jaipur: EC

Election Commission (EC) is soon to set up India’s first regional voters’ awareness centre in the pink city of Jaipur under its Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. This centre will take under its jurisdiction four states, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh. “A 3,385 square metre land for construction of the [centre] has been allotted by the state government in…Jagatpura,” EC stated.

Hacker hacks Twitter account of PM’s personal website, seeks crypto donations

Twitter informed the minister’s office that the account of PM Narendra Modi’s personal website (www.narendramodi.in) was hacked with tweets requesting followers to donate to PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency. The company has taken steps to secure the twitter account, which has over 2.5 million followers. Fortunately, PM Modi’s personal Twitter account, with over 61 million followers, was unaffected by this incident.

Biggest black hole collision detected till date by scientists

Biggest-ever black hole collision was detected by scientists using gravitational waves through the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo observatories. The two black holes observed were 85 times and 66 times the mass of the Sun and collided to form a black hole 142 times bigger than the Sun. The gravitational-wave signal GW190521 from the merger was observed in May 2019.

US Diplomat calls out China, says its taking advantage of COVID-19, India an example

US Diplomat David Stilwell, taking note of India-China’s standoff, and speaking about China’s provocative military movements in Ladakh in August-end, said that China is trying to take advantage of the coronavirus outbreak and India “is one of those examples.” Stilwell also said, “Many conflicts…are going on in China’s periphery right now……Xinjiang…Hong Kong activities, South China Sea – I could go on and on.”
