US bans cotton imports from Chinese producers over ‘slave labour’

The government of USA President Donald Trump put economic pressure on China’s western province of Xinjiang, forbidding cotton imports from the dominant Chinese quasi-military institution that it states uses the forced labour of arrested Uighur Muslims. The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency stated on Wednesday its “Withhold Release Order” would ban cotton and cotton commodities from the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), one of China’s largest producers.
