Facial Recognition Tech introduced by CBSE to enable students to access digital docs

The CBSE on Thursday, 22 October, introduced a facial recognition system to enable class 10 and 12 students to download their digital academic documents. “This computer application matches a human face from a digital image already stored in the database. The computer and the human interaction to map facial features” mentioned a CBSE statement.

Indian Army builds a new messaging application ‘SAI’

A messaging application called the ‘Secure Application for Internet’ (SAI), has been developed by the Indian Army that supports end-to-end secure voice, text, and video calling services for the Android platform over the internet. This application will be used pan Army to and ensure secure messaging within the service. 

According to PAC ranking, Kerala, Goa, & Chandigarh are best-governed in India

Kerala has been declared as the best-governed state in the country. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh ended at the bottom in the large states category, according to the Public Affairs Index-2020 released by the Public Affairs Centre. In its annual report released on Friday, the PAC run under the stewardship of former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman K Kasturirangan, stated that the states were ranked based on governance performance keeping in mind sustainable development.

Seven mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference and the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party, have joined hands and formed the new People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) in Jammu and Kashmir to continue the fight against the revocation of articles 370 and 35A. The alliance has vowed to fight for the restoration of the special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Last year in the month of August, the union government of India had abrogated the special status of the erstwhile state and bifurcated it into union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

World’s strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines, evacuation of residents in process

The Philippine officials have ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents of the southern part of the main Luzon island as a storm, which is the world’s strongest this year, is soon going to approach the Southeast Asian nation. Typhoon Goni, with 215 kph (133 miles) sustained winds and gusts of up to 265 kph (164 mph), is predicted to hit the land on Sunday as the strongest typhoon to mark its presence in the Philippines since Haiyan that killed more than 6,300 people in November 2013. 

Government makes packaging of food grains, sugar in jute bags mandatory

The union cabinet has decided to make mandatory packaging of 100% food grains and 20% sugar in jute bags mandatory for the purpose of giving a boost to the industry. The decision is to benefit farmers in states like West Bengal, Assam and Odisha. “In case of…shortage…in supply of jute packaging material, the textile ministry can relax these provisions,” an official release stated.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told students that the youth of the nation must not stay away from politics and must take active participation in it, during a ‘masterclass on entrepreneurship in governance’. While addressing the students of Ashoka University, he said, “If you want to be a part of the change, we should not shy away from joining politics. The youth of the country can impact policies and get involved in governance. The government needs skilled and knowledgeable professionals.”

Seaplane service from Sabarmati Riverfront to Statue of Unity to be inaugurated by PM Modi

On the 145th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the India Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to pay his tributes by inaugurating India’s first seaplane service between the Statue of Unity site at Kevadiya colony to the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Gujarat Police is going to organize a parade, named the Ekta Diwas Parade, as well in the PM’s presence.

‘Meri Saheli’ initiative launched by Railway Police Force for security of women in trains

As the festival season in approaching, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Bengaluru Division has set up ‘Meri Saheli’ or ‘Nanna Sakhi’ initiative to ensure the security of women passengers in trains. “An initiative of RPF, the strategy entails interaction with lady passengers especially those travelling alone by a team of young lady RPF personnel at the originating station. These lady passengers are briefed about all precautions to be taken during the journey and told to dial 182 in case they face or see any problem in the coach,” said an official statement. 

Tinder’s video calling feature goes live in India

Dating app Tinder has rolled out its new feature that will now enable its customers to video call each other. This is only possible when both the sides like each other’s picture. “Just like matching, we want to make sure you’re on the same page with video: so Face to Face is enabled on a match-by-match basis. Once the conversation is flowing and you’re ready to show you’re interested in a Face to Face, tap the video icon,” said Tinder in a press statement.
