1. India’s 1st batch of 5 IAF Rafale fighter jets land in Ambala

This afternoon five Rafale fighter jets landed at Ambala’s land base. These jets took a 7000 KM long trip from Merignac airbase, France on Monday. The Rafale fighter jets have been a major airplane acquisition in the last two decades. Chief of Air Staff RKS Bhadauria has said that these Rafale planes will significantly enhance IAF’s striking capability. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh via twitter said “These multirole aircraft will revolutionize the capabilities of the IAF”

2. Punjab CM says, have received 50k smartphones for distribution to Class 11, 12 girls

The first batch of 50,000 smartphones has been received by Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday. The phones were received from a company with no affiliation with China. The phones will be distributed by need. Those students with no smartphone to take online classes will be benefited from a free smartphone and one year of free data.  

3. DRDO launches ‘Dare to Dream 2.0’ contest to promote innovators

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday came with an innovation contest named ‘Dare to Dream 2.0’.  The goal of the contest is to promote thinkers and innovators to use emerging technologies in the aerospace and defense sectors of our country. The contest was launched on the 5th death anniversary of the former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. It also promotes our current Prime Ministers’ call for India to transform into Atmanirbhar Bharat. 

4. HRD Ministry renamed. Now to be called as Education Ministry

The Union Cabinet has approved the change in the name of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It would now officially be called the Education Ministry. It is currently being headed by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. The Union Cabinet has approved the draft New Education Policy (NEP 2020) as well, which aims to completely alter all aspects of Indian education structure.

5. World’s biggest nuclear fusion project begins assembly in France

In Saint-Paul-lez-Durance, southern France, the world’s biggest nuclear fusion project has now entered in its five-year assembly phase. Once completed, a billion facilities will be able to generate ultra-hot ‘plasma’ mandatory for nuclear fusion. The ‘ITER’ project, a collaboration between countries like India, European Union, Japan, South Korea, Russia, China, and the United States, will replicate the reactions equal to the power of the Sun.

6. BMC sero-survey finds, 57% of Mumbai slum residents have developed COVID-19 antibodies

A sero-surveillance survey conducted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) found that more than half the population has effectively developed antibodies against Covid-19. The survey was jointly conducted by NITI Aayog and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) for BMC in the first week of July. A TIFR Professor added that, “This is probably the first sero-surveillance survey that found such a high prevalence of Covid-19 antibodies in the world”.

7. China’s 1st Mars mission captures images of the Earth & Moon

China’s first mission to Mars has effectively clicked a photo of the Earth and its satellite, the Moon. The image was taken three days after the Tianwen-1 mission was launched on Thursday. The photo was taken from a distance of 1.2 million kilometers away from Earth. The mission’s name means “Questions to Heaven,” and seeks to enter Martian orbit and release a small rover to study the planet’s surface. As of Tuesday, the rover has traveled at least 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.

8. Twitter decides to ban links spreading hate speech, violent content

Twitter is soon going to shut all loopholes in its rules to make it harder for users to spread hate speech and violent content. The company has updated its policies to stop the spread of violent and hateful conduct. Earlier the company had rules in place avoiding hateful conduct and violence in tweets, but the policy didn’t extend to linked content. So many users effectively circled Twitter’s policies by linking to content and in that way not breaking the company’s rule.

9. India’s former cricket captain Kapil Dev says, Sachin didn’t know how to convert 100s into 200s and 300s

India’s living legend Kapil Dev admitted that he had never seen anyone more talented than Sachin Tendulkar. Yet the former Indian skipper never became a ruthless batsman. The conversation took place in an interview with WV Raman. Kapil Dev, former Indian cricketer, and current women’s team head coach, further said that a player of Sachin’s stature should have scored more double hundreds and triple hundreds in his career.

10. OPPO Reno 4 Pro to launch in India on July 31

Oppo is set to launch the Reno 4 Pro in India on the 31st of July. The new Reno 4 Pro was launched in China last month. For the Indian market, there are talks of OPPO to have made some changes. The phone must stand the current market giants like OnePlus, RealMe, and Samsung. The three factors that might give this mobile an edge over others are display, sleek design, and camera.
