1. CBSE students who moved to different states can appear for Board exams from new location

CBSE Class 10 and 12 students who had moved to different states during the lockdown period after their schools shut down will now be able to appear for their pending board examinations from where they are, announced Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. He has said that the students who have moved will no longer have to return to the previous board exam centre. Further, he said, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will announce modalities of registrations for such requests. The board exams will now be conducted from July 1 to 15. 

2. Anand Kumar offers free IIT-JEE coaching to girl who cycled 1,200 km carrying dad

Super 30 founder and mathematician, Anand Kumar has offered to provide coaching to Bihar girl Jyoti Kumari for IIT-JEE entrance exam free of cost. Jyoti Kumari recently came under the media spotlight due to her courageous act of cycling 1200 kilometres to get her injured father from Gurugram to his home in Bihar’s Darbanga. Since this act of hers won her a lot of praise, Anand Kumar, through his Twitter announced that he would be happy to coach Kumari for free to crack the entrance exam. Apart from this, the girl has also received offers of help from the Cycling Federation of India to fund her education RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bihar’s former chief minister Rabri Devi have also gracefully offered help to sponsor Jyoti’s education as well as a wedding.

3. ASI discovers 9th-century monolithic Shiva Ling in Vietnam temple

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has discovered a Shiva Lingam, that dates back to the 9th century, during restoration work at Vietnam’s Cham temple complex. S Jaishankar, External affairs minister announced this on Twitter and said that this development underscored the “civilizational connect” between the two countries and was a “great cultural example of India’s development partnership”. An official from the ASI said, “During the current restoration work at the temples, ASI team found the Shiva Lingam. It is a monolithic structure with decorative patterns of very exquisite cultural value. Before this, six other Shiva Lingams were found in the My Son temple complex. But the latest find is believed to be the most magnificent.” 

4. Facebook’s video-based music-making app ‘Collab’ being tested for iOS users.

Facebook recently launched an experimental iOS app, Collab, that enables users to create, watch and mix and match original videos to make new music. This app lets users combine three different videos after which users can share this ‘collab’ on any other platform. Collab is uniquely only designed for making original music videos at least as of now, unlike other video apps — including TikTok, Dubsmash, Triller. The music users create can however only be of 15 seconds. This indicates that the app is not developed for professional use but just for fun. 

5. Satellite visuals by NASA show the extent of India’s heatwave.

India is currently experiencing one of the toughest phases and to add in it is also facing the extreme harshness of the sun. The study of the heatwave was carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). NASA has captured images that show yellowish blanket all over the country. Churu in Rajasthan has recorded the country’s highest maximum temperature at 50°C, while Delhi’s Safdarjung experienced its hottest May day in 18 years at 46°C. 

6. Study suggests Collision of galaxies may have caused Solar System formation

Data gathered by ESA’s Gaia has suggested that the formation of our Solar System may be due to the collisions between Milky Way and a smaller galaxy, Sagittarius. The collisions could also be the cause behind the formation of the Sun and the emergence of life on Earth. Researcher are of the belief that the Sagittarius galaxy fell into the Milky Way three times.  

7. Centre to states: Deliver key medicines to mothers and children in containment zones

The union government has advised the states to begin the home-delivery of essential medicines like IFA, calcium, ORS, and zinc for mothers and children across coronavirus containment zones. “Under no circumstances should there be a denial of essential services. With more than 2.5 crore pregnancies each year in the country, it’s important to ensure the availability of services,” The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. 

8. Akshay Kumar donates Rs. 45 lakh to help daily wage workers amid pandemic

Actor Akshay Kumar, who had made sizable donations to various causes during the coronavirus lockdown earlier, has contributed Rs 45 lakh more to the Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), to help daily wage workers during the challenging times of the pandemic. Kumar had previously donated Rs 25 crore to the PM’s COVID-19 relief fund, more Rs 2 crore to the Mumbai Police Foundation, and Rs 3 crore to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) since the time lockdown began. 

9. Relief packages for cities hit by Cyclone Amphan announced by SRK’s KKR

Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has announced relief packages for the cities affected by Cyclone Amphan which recently hit parts of India. These relief packages include contributions to West Bengal CM’s relief fund, plantations of 5000 trees, and other initiatives. “The people of Kolkata, West Bengal have embraced KKR…this is a small effort on our part.” said Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment and KKR CEO Venky Mysore in his tweet. 

10. Facebook tests its audio-only group call app CatchUp first in US

Facebook has launched a new experimental app named CatchUp that enables users to hold one-on-one or group voice calls. Users can notify that they are available to talk and can also call others who are available. The app is currently being testing in the United States for a limited time on both iOS and Android. The number of participants to can join a call at one time is 8, said the media report.
