On Tuesday, Prakash Javadekar, Union Environment Minister released a report of the Tiger Census on eve of Global Tiger Day. “India is proud of its tiger assets. The country today has 70% of the world’s tiger population. They made this extraordinary discovery while being a part of a study at All India Asteroid Search Campaign of AISC,which was a part of a research programme by NASA.
Oxford University, which has been leading in the process of developing a Covid-19 vaccine, has reached the final stage of its clinical trials. The vaccine is being co-developed with AstraZeneca, a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical company. The clinical trials of the vaccine have already begun in South Africa. Currently, the pandemic has infected over 95 lakh people across the globe. Serum Institute of India (SII) too has invested $100 million to mass-generate one billion doses for India and other low-and-middle-income countries. The vaccine is being developed from a virus called ChAdOx1 — a weakened and non-replicating version of a common cold virus (adenovirus).

The International Monetary Fund has sanctioned $4.3 billion in emergency funding for South Africa. It is the largest emergency disbursement provided by IMF to any nation to date to assist with fighting the coronavirus pandemic. “Once the pandemic is behind, there is a pressing need to ensure debt sustainability and implement structural reforms to support the recovery and achieve sustainable and inclusive growth” a Washington-based lender said in a statement

A piece of Martian meteorite will go back to Mars that has fallen on the Earth decades back, with NASA’s robot rover ‘Perseverance’. The ancient rock that fell from the red planet has been donated by the Natural History Museum in London and the rover carrying it will be propelled towards Mars on a seven-month journey after its launch on coming Thursday. As said by the Natural History Museum in London, the Martian meteorite was formed when a comet fell on the red planet around 600,000 to 700,000 years back. The impact sprayed the debris into space. The meteorite, now identified as Sayh al Uhaymir 008 or SAU 008 was discovered in 1999 in Oman and had been stored in London’s Natural History Museum since then.
India’s first case of “vertical transmission” of the coronavirus infection from a mother to her child through the placenta was reported by the Sassoon General Hospital of Pune Maharashtra. Vertical transmission takes place when the baby is still in the uterus. If the mother tests COVID positive, the transmission of the infection takes place through the placenta, an organ that develops in the uterus during the period of pregnancy and supplies oxygen and other necessary nutrients to the baby growing inside.
