Transgender woman allowed to join NCC (National Cadet Corps) by Kerala HC

On Monday, the High Court of Kerala allowed a transgender woman to seek admission into NCC, while addressing a petition challenging Section 6 of The National Cadet Corps Act that only enables males and females to enrol. The court stated that the eligibility criteria of the NCC Act doesn’t recognize the third gender, but it cannot be a reason to deny entry to a transgender individual.

26,291 new COVID-19 cases reported in India, highest this year for 5th consecutive day

India in the last 24 hours reported 26,291 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily number of cases recorded for the fifth day in a row in 2021.118 deaths were reoprted in the last 24 hours, with the death toll now standing at 1,58,725. The active cases now stand at 2,19,262, with Maharashtra contributing the highest in the surge.

Grammys 2021: Record broken by Beyonce for most wins in history by a female and a singer

History was created by the American singer Beyonce who broke the record for most wins ever by a singer and most wins by a female artist. Beyonce earned her 28th Grammy after winning for the R&B performance for ‘Black Parade’, surpassing country-bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, who before Beyonce held 27 Grammys. 

Biggest sandstorm of the decade hits China’s Beijing

Beijing, China’s capital is currently covered in thick brown dust as a consequence of strong winds blowing from the Gobi desert and parts of northwestern China. A yellow alert has been declared by the China Meteorological Administration on Monday morning, informing that the sandstorms had spread from Inner Mongolia into some provinces.

Assam’s Congress guarantees non-implementation of CAA ahead of polls

Ahead of polls in Assam, the Congress party has made a set of promises including the non-implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the promise to offer five lakh jobs to the residents of the state. The party has provided five ‘guarantees’ for Assam if voted to power first being the non-implementation of CAA. The others include offering 200 units of electricity for free and ₹2,000/per month to homemakers.

US now becomes India’s 2nd biggest oil supplier overtaking  Saudi Arabia

The US beat Saudi Arabia becoming India’s second-biggest oil supplier in the previous month. Reuters reported. Saudi Arabia has been among India’s top two suppliers for years but has now glided down to number 4 for the first time since January 2006.

Farmer Union leader says, “protest may continue till November or December”

On Sunday, speaking about the farmers’ protests, Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait said that the protest against the Centre’s new farm laws will extend up to November or December of this year. The leader further said he will now travel across the country to raise awareness among farmers about the laws rather than just sit in Delhi

Song written after George Floyd’s death becomes ‘Song of the Year’ at Grammys

‘I can’t breathe’  written by an American singer H.E.R’s has become the ‘Song of the Year’ at the Grammy Awards. The song was written talking about the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. The song was so empowering, it beat other songs composed and written by popular artists like Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. 

World’s 1st 3D-printed housing community to be set up in US

Mighty Buildings, a US-based construction technology startup and Palari Group have announced their plan of building the world’s first community of 3D-printed zero net energy homes in USA’s California. 15 eco-friendly homes will be build using Mighty Buildings’ 3D-printed panelized Mighty Kit system. Solar power, with optional Tesla Powerwall batteries will supply the energy 

YouTuber Lilly Singh wears mask reading ‘I Stand With Farmers’ at Grammy Awards

YouTube star Lilly Singh made a statement on supporting the farmers’ protest in India by wearing a mask to the Grammys that read, ‘I Stand With Farmers’. She shared a picture of the same on Twitter and wrote, “I know red carpet/award show pictures always get the most coverage, so here you go media. Feel free to run with it. #IStandWithFarmers. #Grammys.”
