NASA Makes Second Attempt To Launch Artemis 1: Here’s All You Need To Know

NASA’s Artemis 1 is the first step towards the Artemis 3 mission, which will be the first revolutionary human mission to the moon since 1972. The launch date for this mission was recently confirmed as September 3, 2022, following an unplanned engine glitch in its prior scheduled date of August 29, 2022. Scientists agree that even though the mission had to be delayed because of the glitch, it was the right thing to do for safety and precautions.

The uncrewed mission of Artemis 1 is different from any other attempt made by NASA because it is by far the most powerful rocket engine ever flown in space. The objective of this mission is to place small satellites along the lunar orbit, through which scientists and researchers can examine the effects of the lunar environment on humans for long-term exposure.

Once Artemis 1 proves to be a success, Artemis 2 will be launched so that astronauts can orbit around the moon, without landing on the lunar surface. The aim is to find out whether lunar soil can be used to produce food, fuel, and building materials for a sustainable life.

The objective of this entire program is to launch the Artemis 3 mission, which will evolve and develop after the successful launch of Artemis 1, and will most likely take the first woman and the first person of colour to the moon by 2025.

The successful launch of the Artemis program, which has been named after the twin sister of God Apollo (which was the name of the first-ever program to send man to the moon) in Greek mythology, will see the return of humans to the moon’s surface after five decades. It is fascinating yet intriguing to know that no one has been on the moon since the Apollo 1 mission in 1972. This is why tomorrow will be a revolutionary attempt in the field of space exploration.
