After her, Sakshi (57kg) and Pwilao Basumatary (64 kg) won silver medals followed by the winning of bronze medals by Pinki Rani (51kg) and Parveen (60kg). Therefore, India won five medals at the respectable European tournament Boxing World Cup which concluded at Cologne, Germany on Saturday. Due to a small draw, the Manipur boxer was placed into the finals which meant this was the only match she’d fight.

India had sent a seven-member team to the competition this time following a healthy haul of six medals from the former Chemistry Cup held at Halle city in central Germany last year.

Leading youth world champion Sakshi’s intense run came to an end against two-time Commonwealth Games silver medalist Michaela Walsh. The Irish dominated the race with her authority in an impressive 5-0 performance, leaving no chance for the 18-year-old Indian youngster to make a comeback in her first top international final.

Pwilao Basumatary, India’s Open gold medalist tried her best but came up short against China’s Chengyu Yang, who was declared the winner on points.

In the last edition, Gaurav Solanki (52kg) and Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg) were the only Indians to stand on the top pedestal.
