KC College’s Department Of The Mass Media Organized It’s 4th International Conference

Mumbai, February 20, 2017:  The Department of Mass Media of KC College organized its fourth international media conference today, 20th February 2017, at the college’s Colaba campus. The theme for this year’s conference was Glocalization—Media Beyond Borders.

The inter-disciplinary conference became a melting pot of ideas about glocalization of media, marketing, products, and more. A host of events ranging from research paper presentations to panel discussions provided a new-fangled lease of creativity.

Inaugurating the conference, Mr Ramesh Narayan, Founder of Canco Advertising and Chairman of Awards Governing Council for the Abby’s Goa Fest 2017, said “They say, the more the things change, the more they remain the same.” According to him, “Media has ensured that the world is not just brought into our homes but it speaks to us as well. Mainstream media puts the audience in a passive place; however, social media ensures that people are at the heart of media, they are the content writers and a part of the social collaboration.”

Keynote speakers Dr Sue Sudbury (documentary filmmaker and senior lecturer, University of Bournemouth, England) and Dr Om Prakash Juneja (UGC Emeritus Professor, M.S.University of Baroda) appreciated the relevance of the conference’s theme in today’s context and focused on the burgeoning impact of the new waves of glocalization and its nuances.

The second half of the conference was defined by a panel discussion themed ‘Global versus Local’ with panellists—Mr Chintan Ruparel, Ms Srividya Menon, Ms Amrita Asrani and Ms Urmi Sahni. The discussion was moderated by Ms Harini Calamur.

Elated, Ms Manjula Nichani, Principal, KC College said, “At KC College, it has always been our endeavour to create wonderful windows of opportunity for all who are part of this college. The catalyst of organizing such a conference was to provide students with a platform where they could interact with a plethora of media professionals and learn from them immensely. We constantly seek for avant garde ideas to help our students face the upcoming challenges in the industry and future.”

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Manjula Srinivas, Head of the Department of Mass Media, KC College said, “I am overwhelmed with the presence of such immensely talented expertises from various verticals of media. Their support and contribution motivates us to promote the significance of mass media. It also helps us create a learning environment which provides students with knowledge, varied perspectives, and multifaceted skills.”

The research papers were presented in the conference on various verticals like advertising & marketing, film & television, news & ethics, and a few others. These were presented by scholars from various universities.
