If you have an aptitude for technology and a love for tinkering, we think you’d flourish in the field of IT engineering.
IT engineering is exactly what it sounds like. In a nutshell, it is the study of all things tech-related. IT engineers are responsible for applying the best of their technical knowledge to solve a host of different technological challenges. To define it a bit more broadly, IT engineering is the study, design and implementation of telecommunications and computer software and hardware, their integration, validation, verification and testing. Additionally, as an IT engineer, you will also be responsible for the innovation of newer technologies.
The basic stepping stone to a career in IT engineering is to attain a Bachelor’s degree in the same field. And for that, you need to have passed your 10+2 exams with at least 40%. Your marks in subjects like physics, chemistry and mathematics will be considered with the highest regard. You can opt for the Bachelor of Information Technology undergraduate course offered by a few institutes in India. However, most IT engineering aspirants often opt for a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng or BE) in IT degrees. Both are a four-year program, comprising of eight semesters.
You will be required to undertake a common entrance exam called Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main) for admission in IIT and NIT. Those who have cleared the JEE Main exam will be required to take up the JEE Advanced exam for admission to select engineering colleges in India. There are also more state-specific and institute specific exams that the college you wish to apply to will provide further information on. While a B.Tech/ BE degree in Information Technology is of high value in India, it is advisable for you to pursue an M.Tech degree to obtain good quality jobs at IT giants such as Google, Infosys and Microsoft.
