After heavy rain and wet conditions postponed the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans from May 28 to May 29 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, fans entered the stadium with high hopes and prolonged excitement to watch the two teams compete. This match was especially the one to watch because the two teams were competing for their own titles. Gujarat Titans were defending their debut winner’s title from the last season, and Chennai Super Kings were also eyeing the record-equalling (with Mumbai Indians) fifth crown.
Ravindra Jadeja finished in classic MS Dhoni style as he had the fans on the edge of their seats in the last two balls when he hit a six and a four to take Chennai Super Kings to their 5th IPL title. Earlier, a passing shower interrupted the match between the two teams and the second innings had to be reduced to 15 overs giving Chennai 171 to chase. In the first innings, Sai Sudharsan (96) narrowly missed out on his century as Gujarat Titans posted 214/4, the highest-ever score in an IPL final, against the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Wriddhiman Saha gave him apt support with his half-century.
Shubhman Gill was awarded the player of the tournament. The award for the emerging player of the season was given to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Glenn Maxwell was the Super striker of the season. Devon Conway was the player of the match. MS Dhoni also found this match as the perfect opportunity to announce that he will not be retiring any time soon.
Overall, this was a match for the record books, and this entire season was one of the best in terms of unpredicted surprises. This year’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) started on 31st March and ended a day later than scheduled, on 29th May, 2023.
