If you have a natural aptitude for problem-solving, a degree in Industrial Engineering will only help in optimizing your capabilities
Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with the optimization of complex processes. Industrial engineers work to eliminate waste of money, time, materials, manpower, machine time, energy, and other resources. They are constantly working to figure out how to do things better and design processes and systems that improve quality and productivity. They also use their expertise to make better systematic processes by using statistical analysis, designing, planning, quality control, operations management and computer simulation. Industrial engineers are driven by the objective to increase efficiency and profitability of manufacturing operations.
In order to pursue a career in Industrial engineering, a background in science is your best bet. Your marks in subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will be the sole focus, in order to build a strong foundation and establish a proper understanding of the field. You need to focus on Calculus, Materials, Metals and Non-metals, Physics, and Statistics and Probability.
Clearing the standard tests like JEE (Mains) for admission to NITs with equal weighting given to Class 12 marks, JEE (Advance) for admission to IITs, and other state-level entrance examinations is a must.
During your years in an engineering college, you can pursue a B.Tech or a B.Sc. (or B.S) degree in Industrial Engineering. Some of the important subjects you need to focus on are Statistical Control, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain Management and Operations. After acquiring a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, you can pursue a Master’s degree in the same, where topics such as the economics of production and business efficiency are given paramount importance.
