Nine Indian B-Schools Ties Up With GMAC For ‘Study In India’ Initiative

Nine business schools in India have tied up with Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) with the aim of promoting Indian MBA institutes in around 27 countries.

GMAC owns and conducts the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) for admission to 6,500 programs globally. Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and Indore, and S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies from Mumbai are among the nine schools that are a part of the collaboration.

While nine institutes are currently a part of the collaboration, the council may consider more institutes in the future. “We have carefully selected the countries where we are planning to promote India management education based on demographics and interests of students. We also have data on students’ mobility from time to time” said President and CEO of GMAC, Sangeet Chowfla.

According to a report in TOI, a survey done by GMAC revealed that a fourth of non-US citizen B-School candidates who considered US as a study destination, do not plan on applying to any graduate business programs. “We wanted to explore alternative destinations for students, particularly India as it is one of the emerging economic powers”, added Chowfla.

The campaign, called Study in India, will enable participants to log into the Study in India website (www.mba.com/studyinindia) and get an opportunity to secure admission in any of the nine B-Schools partnered with GMAC using their GMAT scores. The first level of study will include promoting India as a country and dealing with Visa issues and the cost of studies. The second level will centre around B-Schools, with videos portraying campus life in India, food and accommodation.

The 27 countries to be targeted for the ‘Study in India’ initiative span across Asia, Africa and Europe – Malaysia, Japan, UAE, Kenya, South Africa and France, to name a few.
