How to prepare for JEE Mains 2025

Examination stress can significantly impact a student’s health, leading to restless nights and loss of appetite. With high-stakes exams like JEE Main, the pressure often intensifies due to family expectations. To ease this stress, thorough preparation in advance is crucial. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you prepare effectively for JEE Main 2025.

About JEE Main

JEE Main is a vital entrance exam for aspiring engineers in India, serving as the gateway to prestigious institutions such as the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). It is also the first step toward qualifying for JEE Advanced.

Examination Dates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct JEE Main in two sessions: January 2025 and April 2025.

JEE Main 2025 Application Form

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will open the application process for JEE Main 2025 Session 1 in November. For Session 2, the application form will be available in the first week of February. Candidates can access the application form online at the NTA JEE Main 2025 website: jeemain.nta.ac.in.

The application fee for JEE Main 2025 is INR 1000 for candidates in the unreserved category, while those from reserved categories and female candidates will pay INR 800.

To apply, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria, which state that applicants should have passed class 12 in 2023, 2024, or be appearing in 2025. There are no age or minimum mark requirements for JEE Main.

While filling out the application form, candidates need to upload a scanned passport-sized photograph and signature. Candidates from reserved categories (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD) must also provide their category certificate.

Those wishing to participate in both the January and April sessions can complete a single application during the JEE Main Registration for Session 1.

1. Understand the Syllabus and Exam Pattern

  • The syllabus is based on NCERT Class 11 and 12 concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • The exam consists of three sections: each featuring 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 10 numerical questions, with only 5 needing to be attempted.

2. Create a Study Plan

  • Time Allocation: Dedicate specific hours to each subject based on your strengths and weaknesses.

  • Split preparation into Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry.
  • For Physical Chemistry, emphasize problem-solving. For Organic, practice reactions and mechanisms, and thoroughly study NCERT for Inorganic.
  • Recommended books: OP Tandon, MS Chauhan (Organic), NCERT.
  • Mathematics:
  • Build strong concepts and practice extensively.
  • Focus on Calculus, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, and Trigonometry.
  • Recommended books: RD Sharma, Cengage series, Arihant.

  • Daily Practice: Make problem-solving a daily routine.
  • Mock Tests: Regularly take mock tests and solve previous years’ papers to familiarize yourself with the exam format.
  • Performance Analysis: Review your mock test results to identify and address weak areas.

5. Time Management

  • Efficiently manage your exam time by tackling easier questions first.
  • Practice completing mock tests within the 3-hour time limit.

6. Revision

  • Dedicate the last 1-2 months solely for revision, focusing on important topics and your notes.
  • Regularly review what you’ve studied to enhance retention.

7. Stay Updated

  • Keep track of any changes in the exam pattern or syllabus by visiting the official JEE website.

8. Health and Well-being

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle with proper sleep, regular exercise, and a balanced diet.
  • Take breaks during study sessions to prevent burnout.

9. Coaching (Optional)

  • If needed, consider enrolling in a coaching institute or online course (like Unacademy, Vedantu, or Byju’s) for structured learning.

Resources

  • JEE Main Official Website: For updates and announcements.
  • NCERT Textbooks: Essential for all subjects.
  • Online Mock Test Platforms: Use apps like NTA Abhyas or Embibe for practice.
