Heather Watson clobbered with the 2nd biggest fine in Wimbledon history

Britain’s Heather Watson has been thrashed with the second-biggest fine in Wimbledon history for jamming her racket into the grass. British number two, Heather Watson was charged for her unsportsmanlike conduct when she was dethroned by Annika Beck of Germany.  Watson, 24, was fined $12,000 (£9,043) for smashing her racket into the grass having squandered three match-points. The fine charged on Watson is approximately one-third of her total tournament prize money (£30,000).

Watson, who will fall 10 ranks down in the rankings to No.65 after Wimbledon, said she wanted to “punish herself” after the defeat, so went on Twitter and hit out at internet trolls after her devastating defeat. “I was in a bad mood,” she said. “It’s like when you’re in a bad mood and you bang your racquet, it’s not a positive thing.”

Her fine is only beaten by Fabio Fognini who was fined $20,000 during the 2014 tournament for unsportsmanlike conduct and damaging the court. Fognini also had to suffer an additional fine of $7,500 for abusing the tournament official Wayne McKewen and making a filthy gesture to his opponent.

Watson is giving a healthy competition to defending women’s champion and one of the greatest female tennis players of all time, Serena Williams who is known for her temper and aggression on the court, has been charged with a fine of $10,000 for jamming her racquet and throwing it behind her which caught the eye of the cameraman when the ball landed on the lap of the cameraman after she lost the first set against Christina McHale. Other than this, Viktor Troicki was also charged with a fine of $10,000 for his violent behaviour against the umpire by accusing him as the “worst umpire ever” when Troicki faced his loss by Albert Ramos-Viñolas.
