Govt. of India introduces scholarship for female students

The Department of School Education and Literacy has introduced the scholarship scheme with the aim of establishing an enabling environment to reduce drop-outs and to promote the enrollment of girl children, mainly belonging to the SC or ST communities in secondary schools. The last date to submit applications is October 31, 2017.

To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be an unmarried girl and less than 16 years of age as on March 31 on joining class 9, belonging to SC or ST community. Candidates who have passed class 8 exam from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas – irrespective of whether they belong to SC, ST or not – and enrolled in class 9 in a State Government, Government-aided, and Local Body schools are eligible to apply.

Upon enrollment in class 9, INR 3000 will be deposited in the name of eligible unmarried girls as fixed deposits. These students are entitled to withdraw it along with the interest on clearing class 10, and attaining 18 years of age. Applications are attended online only at national scholarship portal.
