In the present sci-fi age of tech and sophistication, there hardly goes a day without almost 90% of the human population all across the globe, spending a decent amount of time a day, scrolling through social media. Instagram feeds and Facebook stories are flooded with engaging content suited to the viewer’s tastes and preferences.
A plethora of assorted content, ranging from graceful dance performances to cooking tasty cuisines is available in plenty across the different social media platforms.
While scrolling through the reels of many known and unknown faces presenting their specific talents and calibre through some expression of art, music or speech, once in a while, that instinctive nag also arises in us, to express ourselves as well in some way or form.
That hunch to express oneself, to show one’s uniqueness through a creative expression, that urge to be seen and appreciated for sharing one’s flair and talent on a global platform, ignites the flame of enthusiasm in us. However, most of us just stop midway in our imagination and never end up taking the actual step of picking up our phones, shooting the video and posting that reel. But why?
More often than not, the answer to this lies in our own minds and how we think about ourselves. External circumstances could certainly be a deterring factor, however, in the most common instances, it’s our own fear and inferiority complex that stops us from doing something we wish to. What if we are not presentable enough? What if we get mocked? What if we are not good enough to give our best? What if this? What if that? These what-ifs are the clouds of doubt that constantly block our self-confidence and keep us far from realising what we are really capable of doing.
Let us for a while, take a moment to subside all other questions about what some other person thinks about our work and let us take a moment to appreciate what we think about ourselves and our work and talent. What if some random person thinks I am not good enough? Does that really become a certificate for gauging my true potential? If I am giving my hundred percent and I am satisfied with my efforts, then why should I at all bother about how people view my work and presentation?
One, two or three people might not appreciate my efforts, but does that at all imply that among a sea of millions and millions of people, there will be not a single individual who will praise and applaud me for my potential and artistry?
There certainly will be people who will realise and appreciate my individuality and hard work. People with millions of followers today, had started at a point when they merely had a handful of people viewing their work. But what matters the most is to not stop in between and carry on with our work, each day improving and honing our skills and mastery to become more better and deft in what we do.
Today, social media is an unparalleled platform and opportunity to present ourselves and share our forte and talents on a global network and we must unfailingly make the most out of this to realise our true potential without any hint of doubt or fear of being judged by others or a low self-esteem. The key is to improve and improve and get better each day as nothing begins as perfect, it only attains perfection with perseverance and consistency.
