Get Mechanical – June 2016

If you dream of inventing magnificent robots and machines of the future, you’d want to consider a career in Mechanical Engineering

If you are among those few who like to get your hands dirty, then Mechanical Engineering is your best bet when it comes to a career in machines. Mechanical Engineers are at the forefront of developing new technologies for a number of industries, and are highly sought after throughout the world. Mechanical Engineers work with machines and engines, from elevator technology to robotics. ME is the discipline that applies the principles of engineering, physics, and material science for the design, analysis, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It basically deals with the operation and production of machinery.

WHAT YOU NEED
To be able to work your way through a Mechanical Engineering degree, the key areas you need to focus on are, Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Calculus, Periodic Table and Gravitation among other subject topics. In most countries, Mechanical Engineering degrees are typically 4-year long or 5-year long and result in a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. or B.S) or a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree. In India, you are required to crack the JEE (Mains), and the JEE (Advance) after that to be able to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. To crack the same, you must focus attentively on major topics like Thermodynamics, Light, Organic Chemistry, Calculus and Co-ordinate Geometry among others.
Once you have acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, you can go on to pursue a Master’s Degree in the same. India also offers the option of doing a diploma course in engineering by completing a course from the Industrial Training Institute (ITIs) which result in an ITI Trade Certificate.
