Forbes Lists 3 Indian Techies Among America’s Richest Self-made Women

Forbes has listed three Indian women among America’s 80 richest self-made women as the “ceiling crashers” who have created new businesses and garnered fortunes.

The three Indian origin women who have been named by ‘Forbes list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women 2019’ are Jayshree Ullal, president and CEO of computer networking firm Arista Networks, Neerja Sethi, a co-founder of IT consulting and outsourcing firm, Syntel, and Neha Narkhede the CTO and co-founder of streaming data technology company, Confluent.

Jayshree Ullal has been ranked 18th in the ‘Forbes Richest Self-made Women’ list. She has a net worth of $1.4 billion. The 58 year-old holds 5% of Arista Networks. Forbes states that she was born in London and raised in New Delhi, India.

Neerja Sethi who has been ranked 23rd on the list, co-founded the company Syntel with her husband in the year 1980 sitting in their apartment in Troy, Michigan by merely investing $2000. Now her net worth has risen to $1 billion. In October 2018, Atos SE, a French IT firm bought Syntel for $3.4 billion. Sethi received an approximate of $510 million for her stake.

Neha Narkhede who has been ranked 60th on the list is a 34 years-old LinkedIn software engineer who contributed in developing Apache Kafka (open-source stream-processing software platform) to handle the networking site’s huge influx of data. In 2014 she along with her two LinkedIn co-workers founded Confluent to develop tools for enterprises using Apache Kafka, which became open source in 2011, Forbes said.

She now has a net worth of $360 million. Confluent is currently valued at $2.5 billion which includes Netflix, Goldman Sachs and Uber as customers.

It’s interesting to know that, securing the topmost position in the list was a 72 year-old woman, Diane Hendricks who is the chairperson of ABC supply, one of the largest wholesalers of roofing, windows, gutters, and siding for residential and commercial buildings in America. She currently has a net worth of $7 billion.

The list also includes other powerful, talented, inspirational people like, Oprah Winfrey who was ranked 10th on the list, Kylie Jenner reality TV star and an entrepreneur ranked 23rd on the list, fashion designer Tory Burch ranked 29th on the list, and singer Beyonce ranked 51 on the list. Apart from these there are many more powerful and inspiring women who have been listed as the richest self-made women in America.

This list shows that women are becoming successful in many sectors like entertainment, business, sports, fashion, science, technology, etc. The list has inspired aspiring women like you and me to chase our dreams and accomplish our goals.
