First Illustrative Storybook on Dr. Kiran Bedi released

A Illustrative Storybook on Dr. Kiran Bedi’s life – KIRAN BEDI: MAKING OF THE TOP COP was released today by Head Boys, Head Girls, students from various schools, their Principals, Teachers and parents. The release was preceded by an open panel discussion organized by IIT Delhi Alumni Association, India Vision Foundation and Diamond Books on the important subject ‘It Starts With Us: Early Leadership and the role of family and school in its development’.

Unconventional by all standards, as it has been translated in 12 major Indian languages namely, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Tamil, Kannada, Oriya, Bengali, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu and Malayalam.

The first in the series, this book has been written by Kiran’s sisters, Dr Reeta Peshawaria and Anu Peshawaria, edited by Dr Amrita Bahl, depicting pictorially the story of Dr. Bedi’s early life in Amritsar, her education, tennis, and her days in the Police academy.

 

The primary purpose of this event was to identify leadership qualities that children can develop at a young age and the support a child needs to reach his/her true potential. Through a moderated discussion, common themes emerged from the celebrity and the ordinary citizen’s life and these served as takeaways for the over 1200 students, parents and teachers from 25 schools present at the function.

A contribution to the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, the panel discussion featured Ms. Karman Kaur ,currently ranked No.1 in under 18 age group in India (March 2015) & ranked 150 in world juniors, Mr. Chetanjit Singh, Karman’s father who has supported his daughter’s sports career, Ms. Rachna Pandit ,Principal- Delhi Public School , Mr. Ashok Kumar ,Addtional Director General of Police & President IIT – Alumni and Dr. Kiran Bedi. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Neetu Sharma,Director, Navjyoti India Foundation, Child Education program. Setting the theme for the event, Dr. Amrita Bahl, opened the event with a brief presentation on the early leadership qualities chronicled as part of the Illustrative Storybook.
