A Number of Young Designers Dazzled the Ramp at Lakme Fashion Week – Winter/Festive 2012 with their Fresh Collections. Youth Inc Tells You More About These Talented Designers

Last month, the glamorous lobby of Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, was buzzing with the collective energy of pretty girls dressed in prettier dresses and their carefully chosen designer handbags, organisers emerging from their sacred place, providing a glimpse of the mysterious backstage adrenaline, photographers with their impressive cameras, polite media relations people and amused hotel staff. The thing that stood out the most in the room, however, was its smell. A smell that held the promise of spotlight, long legs, glamour and electrifying music. It assured an elite ramp and most importantly, fabric stitched to rev up one’s imagination. Such were the sights one witnessed at Lakme Fashion Week- Winter/Festive 2012.
Young talent emerged at the event, using the aspirational platform to showcase their fresh and innovative designs. If fact, on the first day, the event opened with the collections of the Gen Next designers, who were identified as emerging talent by the organisers. Usha Talent Box was another forum, which promoted young talent in the fashion industry.

Wardrobe essential for college students: A pair of bright coloured jeans or floral print trousers are wardrobe essentials for women. For men, it would be a bright pair of loafers.

Hottest trend of the season: A hint of 60’s vintage in the silhouettes work well for this season, be it power shoulders or Peplum waists. Feminine silhouettes with these elements will rule this season.

Wardrobe essential for college students: SSilhouettes that are young, fuss-free, preppy that bursts youth appeal will work well for college students. Bright coloured footwear paired with 3/4ths for men with layered tees and shirts work well. While for women fun colour blocking paired with shorts or incorporated in fuss-free feminine silhouettes works well.fussfree

Wardrobe essential for college students: Pair of jeans with wide neckline t-shirts, or short tops for girls is an essential.

Aniket Satam

Describe your collection in 3 words: Modern, lyrical and artistic

One celebrity you would like to give a makeover: Parineeti Chopra. She’s hot property right now in terms of her looks and acting abilities but she needs to develop her look and improve her wardrobe, especially with respect to press appearances

Favourite designer: Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Favourite fashion brand: Since I have had a middle class upbringing, I’m not really a brand person and generally against ‘logo mania’. However, I do like the brand Cartier, as it signifies supreme luxury. I don’t own any Cartier product yet, but hope to someday.

Hottest trend of the season: The colour of this season is blue, broken with neutral shades like beige white or cream. These colours have a cooling effect and suit any Indian skin tone. Also, the layered look is in.

Wardrobe essential for college students: A pair of Vans is a must as they are comfortable and available in different colours. Also a big leather satchel in pop colours or denim sling is a must have. Using cool stationery also makes a style statement. A cool coloured watch or a silver watch with a coloured dial is essential.

Your next collection will be: I have recently launched my new collection called ‘Jai Ho’ on Independence Day vintage. I have used embroidery from Kutch and colour blocked tunics with raw silk and khadi silk in bright and neon colours. The idea behind ‘Jai Ho’ was to introduce Indian textiles to a modern audience.

Hottest trend of the season: Quirky prints

Wardrobe essential for college students: For boys a very smart pair of loafers which goes with every look (formal or casual) is essential. For girls, a super sexy spacious clutch purse, which can double up as a wallet is an absolute must have.

Your next collection will be: WOW! I am pretty much clueless about it for the time being, but it will definitely be fun and fresh.
