Experience Meets Innovation At Zeitgeist’s Media Networking Meet

Mumbai, December 02, 2023 – With Zeitgeist 2023-24, the annual media conference and festival of the Department of Mass Media at St. Xavier’s College, only a week away, a prelude networking event was held on Friday, December 01, 2023.

This year’s Zeitgeist, scheduled for the 7th and 8th of December, focuses on “Generation Zeta” – a demographic encompassing individuals who are virtually connected, technologically updated, and actively engaged with online communities. The festival promises an exciting lineup of events, including workshops on improv acting and film production, as well as engaging panels featuring renowned personalities.

A stately affair in the majestic Fr. Palacios Hall, the black-tie event was an opportunity for students currently pursuing mass communication and journalism to interact with and learn the pragmatic functioning of the sector from the graduates of this very department. The networking convention was addressed by the Head of the Department, Ms Perrie Subramaniam, with a vision to make this event an annual occasion to bridge the gap between the aspirants and the experienced.

The evening was graced by the alumni who once strolled the college corridors through the last twelve years, now carrying forward the St. Xavier’s legacy in their respective professional fields such as that of marketing, film, music, content creation, screenwriting and journalism. A memorable evening lit up by the homecoming of our beloved yet inspiring alumni, the event proved to be an enlightening opportunity for the young cohorts.

The students’ bright-eyed curiosity and penchant for innovation were met with the advice and insights of their more mature counterparts. They talked about their ideas and ambitions for the future and forged connections with industry professionals who supported them and provided avenues for mentorship.

The event had an air of elegance with a live performance by the BMM student band and came with a spirit of nostalgia for the returning graduates who recounted the highlights of their batches and regaled the audience with their wit and humour. The BMM Bingo with popular college traditions was a fun ice-breaker that helped the attendees bond over shared life experiences.

The Media Networking Meet was a testament to the fact that the media industry is an intricate web of diverse communication messages built on a strong foundation of human connection and Zeitgeist only endeavours to grow it further.
